What an ugly game. Just bad football. The defense is not stopping anyone. The last three games I really blame the defense for making the other QB's look good. Total lack of pressure.
As for the offense, what a shit show. Why does Lester insist on throwing the ball when Iowa is ripping off 7-8 yards a carry? Why? Gronowski can run pretty good but is arm sucks. Two lucky catches saved the whole game for Iowa. Hey Lester, Nebraska can't stop the run, do not pass the ball, ever! If you win the coin toss, defer, your offense is not good. Pretty simple stuff.
I mean, my gut wants me to complain about the defense. And as with so many seasons before, the losses came because the defense just couldn't hold the other team to less points.
But I think we have to look at those numbers. Just 17 points. At least some of those due to turnover if I recall. I know Sparty isn't exactly an offensive juggernaut, but they are no Albany.
If your offense can't score 18 points, you are going to loose a lot of games.
We all know this defense doesnt have big time playmakers. Not discounting X who really came alive or Lutmer who's showing some spark. But neither are a DeJean or a Sanders. And yeah, the line ain't sack machines.
But this defense, on the whole, over 11 games has performed almost, if not outright, as well as any previous Parker defense. At least in the comprehensive stat of points allowed relative to all the other teams in NCAAF.
The offense has to be as good or better than the opposing team's offense for Iowa to win.
