Hawkeyes Offer NJ RB

As a foolish idiot I have to ask...do you think KF is being a hypocrite by offering already committed players?

How is it hypocritical? Other schools offer Iowa Commits. Other schools have and will offer Iowa commits. Michigan offered Hankins and is working really hard to get him to visit, and Iowa is working hard to keep him from visiting. Just as Penn St. and Iowa offered this kid and I'd bet Rutgers is working hard to keep him from visiting.

That is recruiting. You try to keep your kids and you try to get kids to sign with you that you want. Nothing hypocritical at all about it. Plus Iowa has proven that it doesn't pull offers SOLELY for visiting another school. Higdon visited Michigan, Fant visited Nebraska, Ott visited Nebraska, Eno visited Missouri, Calloway visited Texas, Arkansas and Nebraska. What Iowa does try to do is win recruiting battles with other schools, so they try like hell (as they should) to keep their commits off other schools campuses.......just like the schools trying to flip Iowa kids are trying like hell to get them to visit.

It is a dirty, ugly business, recruiting is. You can either say their are no hypocrites in stuff like this, or they are all hypocrites. Either way Iowa is doing what everyone else is doing.

Ok, thanks for the response.

I hate the response Iowa is doing it because other schools are doing it, I can hear my mother asking if I would jump off a bridge if everyone else did. I do get that it is a ugly business and a necessary evil that Iowa has to offer kids that are already committed. Personally it seems to me like KF has a holier than thou attitude about it but I don't have all the facts either. And I am sure KF won't be calling me anytime soon to ask my opinion on the matter.

This is nothing like jumping off a bridge cause everyone else is doing it. It is keeping up with the times and if you don't do it, you are the program left in the dust.

Iowa and all programs (not named Bama, OSU, or MichigN) try to do everything they can to keep commits from taking visits, Iowa is no different. So yeah they explain early and often that they expect them if they commit to NOT take visits. Yet when they do take visits offers are not pulled. Ott, Fant, Higdon, Eno, Calloway all took a visit and didn't get the offer pulled after that visit.

So how is KF a hypocrit? He recruits other schools verbal commits, and several Iowa commits have taken visits and not had their offers pulled.

I think KF is a hypocrite because he explains to his commits early and often that he expects them to not take visitsto other schools, but he is ok if a recruit committed to another school takes a visit to Iowa. Really this seems like a text book definition of hypocrisy to me.

I get that it is the nature of the beast I just personally think it is hypocritical. Either way Go Hawks!

Then every last coach at a P5 school (outside maybe Saban, Harbaugh and Meyer) is a complete and total Hypocrite according to your definition. What they heck to you think James Franklin is doing with this kid? He is trying to get him to visit Penn St. even though he is committed to Rutgers At the same time he is telling his committed kids that he doesn't want them to visit Michigan, Ohio St. and Bama. All coaches do this, so all coaches are hypocrites according to you.

This isn't just pointed at you Tate4, but I mean seriously you guys need to get your head out of the sand. KF isn't doing anything that every other P5 coach is doing. The #1 thing to do to keep a committed kid from flipping is keeping them off another campus. How often do you see a kid flip from school A who he is committed to and flip to school B which he hasn't even visited? It doesn't happen that way.

Take ISU's 4* commit Cam White for example. He is going to visit Ole Miss, and I'll bet you about $10,000 he eventually flips to Ole Miss if he takes that visit. If ISU loses this kid, they lost the battle because they couldn't keep him off the Ole Miss campus. If they have an attitude that, no biggie, just let this kid visit elsewhere and we will keep recruiting him and he will re confirm his commitment with us, they are freaking delusional.

I don't think anybody who points out the hypocrisy of Ferentz is saying that it is not hypocritical when other P5 coaches do it as well. So yes - all coaches who do this are hypocrites. And yes - it seems to be the nature of the recruiting beast. It is what it is.

Want to take it to another level? How about the recruits that get offers pulled for taking visits and those that don't? I don't care if they called Iowa first or not. It does not say anything about that in their welcome letter.

I agree with you in that it is not in Iowa's (or any team's) best interest to let commits take visits but do you really think kids can't be unofficially flipped without first taking a visit? If you don't then it's time to give up the belief in unicorns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I'm actually unaware of any Iowa recruit getting his offered pulled for only taking a visit. I have heard of guys losing offers for run ins with the law, guys who don't qualify simply can't get in and are forced to go the JUCO route. Please name me the recruit who had an offer pulled for visiting another school??? Eno didn't get his pulled when he visited Mizzo. Calloway didn't get his pulled when he visited Texas, Nebraska, or Arkansas. Fant didn't get his pulled when we unofficially visited Nebraska or ND. Higdon took an official visit to Michigan, and still had his offer. Ott took a visit to Nebraska and didn't get his offer pulled.

Where the hypocrisy? KF isn't pulling offers from any kid that I know of for just taking a visit.

You said KF pulled Eno and Calloway's offers so if it wasn't for visits why did he pull them?

For reasons other than the visits. Do you really wanna go down this road again? How about a Les Miles reference next? Oh and yes, Miles still sucks as a coach and KF and a million other coaches are better. ;)

Now you're just trolling

It sounds like Ferentz got more strict in his no visit policy after Higdon. Maybe not tho.

Well, Iowa is going to have to really scrape the bottom of the barrel it seems to get another RB recruit. Branch and Lovett don't appear to be that interested in Iowa.

Lovett just told me that he's officially visiting Iowa this weekend for the Michigan game. Trying to get him to answer a few questions for a preview story.

Geez, Rob. Instead of giving us some good info why don't you weigh in on the brand new topic of coaches and hypocrisy? Be sure to add some personal insults in a back and forth...thanks!
