Hawkeyes get commitments from two Detroit DE's.

Anybody know if these guys will need a redshirt year or if they'll be good enough to play as true freshman?

Here's a link to a Scout reporter covering a camp today. Has a couple clips Lattimore doing some line drills. It's only a small sample size but I really like what I see. He has everything Iowa has been looking for in a DE. Good lateral movement for his size and shows legit speed. You'll have to scroll down to find em....

Last Sunday at the Opening Regional in Columbus last Sunday. Allen Trieu said it was the most talent-laden events they have had this year, and they listed the top 10 rising seniors who stood out to them (Defensive). Cedrick Lattimore was one of the 10 ten defensive players. They said he is a great athlete (recruited as a BB player) and his speed and moves impressed for his size.

Good point, but more time than not guys don't go from receiving no other offers or receiving only MAC level offers to being recruits a Harbaugh-type coach would offer.

And Ferentz could spit back but those guys would probably just laugh at him. I didn't see Kirk spitting at Saban when he poached Piersbacher from him.

Players are still being evaluated, and they haven't even played their Sr. years. Lattimore just picked up a Minnesota offer, and he will get more offers before this is all said and done. We will be lucky if the Detroit kids end up signing with us in Feb.

You're right about that. It's almost better that the Detroit kids are just good but not great their senior year because of the vulture-like culture in NCAA recruiting.

This is a nice feather in our cap. Let's hope a couple more early commits bump up as well after tearing things up their senior years.

If Ott keeps being the monster he was on Saturday then that should help convince DE recruits that we're a serious place to consider

No doubt he'll come sniffing around, as will Harbaugh. It means recruiting is picking up. I take it as a good sign.
