Hawkeyes Drop Opener...7th Straight Loss

Cmon people getting sick of this negativity. Everybody knew that Iowa would have some rust to work off and they did. Everybody should've known this was going to be a tough game for our inexperienced team (they were a BC bowl team last year people). We showed some promise definitely in the first half but made to many mistakes in the second. Everybody needs to take a step back and reexamine this game. We knew this season and game wasn't going to be a park in walk.

We beat that BCS bowl team and finished 4-8. Now we lost to them. Do we finish better than 4-8?

No. I can see Iowa going into conference play 1-3. In conference is a toss up. only wins I could see at this point are against purdue and maybe minny.

Simply put, Iowa gave this one away.

More specifically, the offense had four solid chances to score TDs in the 2nd half and didn't/couldn't.

Game, Set, Match

the pass rush is a travesty.

This...if we ain't blitzin' we ain't gettin' pressure. Thanks coach K, you maniacal *****.

All is not lost...this one sucked a big fat one, but I saw some good things. We played the only opponent with a pulse out of everyone in the B1G this week in my opinion...at this hour. Eliminate turnovers and we win by 2 TD's.

The night is darkest just before the dawn...or so they say.

Hawks.

Even though it sucks to let a game slip away in the 4th quarter and take another loss at home - I'm just not feeling the despair. Overall this was a far better effort than I was expecting on offense, in spite of the mysterious second half play calling. On defense, there are some guys flying around making plays.

So I'm going to wait a few more weeks before I start looking for a basement window to jump out of...

Good write up.

Powell needs to be in the games a lot this year

FreedComanche

I was thinking the exact same thing, why isn't he getting in on the wr screen play if he is the most elusive and fastest player on the team? I thought Canzeri's role would be bigger, he got maybe 3 carries and not one play out of the backfield. Get him in space and see what happens. He pass blocked more than anything, which while watching is not his strength.

We have a lot of room to improve, and there is a chance we might turn this around as the season progresses. The Ol' Captain better learn how to win the close games or myself and many others will be sounding the drums for Kirk to step down.

I would like to add our passing game, namely our wr group disappeared when NIU went to man to man outside. We seem to have the same ingredients for defeat as last season's team. Put eight in the box and play press man coverage outside and our offense disappears. I hope we can find a dynamic play maker or a schematic solution to this problem sooner than later.

Next weeks game is only good for a confidence builder. If we win big can you say we improved? Mo st is bad. If they don't win big it's going to be another long season.

We have one, maybe a couple, but we never target them. We should have deliberately tried to get the ball to Powell as many times as possible today. Instead we again see short out after short out followed by off tackle.

Exactly, I didn't want to come right out and say it but I think we have Canzeri, Powell, and CJF to target...maybe even T Smith.

We will look a whole lot better next week against Missouri St and might see some of these players make some big plays. The whole team could use a confidence builder, let's hope we put our foot on the accelerator on offense next week and smash them like we should.

When do we EVER even when good put together 4 quarters of good offensive football?

Yesterday the second quarter was the only quarter we did anything. 17 points, 7 of which was setup based on a great flea flicker. 3 pts in 3 quarters of football. The sad part is that was an improvement over last year.
