Hawkeyes: Don’t sleep on senior Eric May - nbcsports.com

Any "bad talk" from me is not about May as a person, but as a basketball player. Nobody doubts his loyalty - it's his skills as a basketball player I'm not sure of.

May has had some injuries, indeed. And it's certainly been a factor at times. But I don't buy that it's the one and only reason that he hasn't produced. Or the fact that he "lacks confidence", which has become a popular wives tale on these boards the past few years, commonly used as an explanation (or an excuse). Good players don't tend to lack confidence in their game.

Or maybe injuries have taken a toll.

But let's face facts - May was a 2* recruit. He is athletic as all h*ll, but I'm not convinced he's that talented. Athleticism doesn't necessarily equal TALENT.

I'd love to see Eric May have a big senior season (stranger things have happened - Les Jepsen?). But as someone else pointed out, I tend to think there's a better chance that he sees dwindling playing time now that he is surrounded by more talented players than he has been the previous few years. I'd like to be wrong though - a good Eric May is good for the team and the program. I just have my doubts. Call me a skeptic.

Guys, he didn't bulk up to 280 lbs. Never was he at a weight that would be dangerous for a 6'5" 20 year old athlete.

No, but for one who came down hard on his heels consistently like Eric, it obviously left him open to back injuries.

May is a lot more athletic than a lot of the guys. Fifteen or twenty pounds of muscle could put a lot more stress on certain parts of his body than say someone like McCabe. I think McCabe is a great player, but he isn't a great leaper, ect.
