Have to say that all the bad talk about May from people should stop. This guy has been loyal to this team and has stuck it out. Really hope he has a good senior season. From article:

“I want to be the guy locked in on their best player,â€￾ May said. “I’m excited about it.â€￾

“We can’t accept getting beat, or giving up on plays,â€￾ May said. “It all transfers over to games, and Big Ten games. It has to be consistent every single day.â€￾

I haven't seen any of this "bad talk." Eric May has been hampered by injuries his entire career. Is that bad talk?

I, for one, think you can probably sleep on Eric May this year without any serious repercussions. His odds of having a great senior year are much less than the odds of him dropping out of Fran's rotation.

I hear his hottie GF likes it. Eric has been hampered by injuries. He also has limitations in his game associated with not great handles and an inconsistent shot. I like that he seems to understand his limitations and will focus in D, where, when healthy, he has shown some nice flashes. Every team can use that player who just sells out on the defensive end of the court. He should just watch tape on Rodman, Ainge, MWP, Tony Allen, etc. Use all five fouls and break the will of the other team's best player. That will go from making me cringe when he gets the ball, to making him my favorite player on the team.

Really, really hoping Eric stays healthy this season. I don't think his offensive game is going to flip around enough to really matter but if he stays healthy, we'll have someone rather stout on the D side.

I believe Coach McCaffery has named May the captain of the team, so obviously he considers him to be an asset.

I remember when Fran came in he said the he sits down with each player before and after the year I believe to go over expectations and the players rolls on the team. I liked that when I heard it. This teams has nice players who can play specific rolls that makes BB teams much better. May as a defensive stopper (don't care if you score a point). McCabe/Basabe 6th man off the bench (to give the team a boost), etc. These are all things that are essential to a team succeeding, and when players embrace their rolls, they can be much more effective in those rolls.

Deanvogs what stats can you provide that show May is a defensive stopper?

I didn't say he was a defensive stopper....but it seems that is what May is talking about what his roll might be.

“I want to be the guy locked in on their best player,” May said. “I’m excited about it.”

My bigger point was to talk about having defined rolls, especially as it relates to those who won't be starting or playing big minutes. If we can get some meaningful time with those players on the court executing the roll they were intended to do, it helps the teams win games.

Leaving May on the floor for a prolonged period means we either have to sit Ogelsby or Marble for long periods. That really hurts the offense.

Im not sure if he is latterly quick enough to be a great defender.

I think he can be quick enough to give our team some much needed defense. He was hampered with injuries all last year and a hurt groin can really slow you down on d. Wasn't it two years ago he was leading the nation for awhile with steals per game?

Can someone provide any evidence whatsoever that proves May is any better of a defender than anyone else on the team. His stats are skewed by playing limited conference games...there is a lot of talk about his defensive prowess, but no evidence to support it.
I want May to have a good season, but there is nothing that tells me he can.
