Hawkeyes Against the World

I have no doubt that Kirk is a different person in practice and behind closed doors. There's no way he could be the coach that he is if he just chews gum all the time.

He's proven many times he can get his teams ready to play, it just seems like the team needs a letdown for that to happen.

I don't want KF or even the team to come out and be cocky and say stupid things. I appreciate the profesionalsm that's oozed out of Iowa City since KF has been here, from both him and the players (for the most part.....arrests excluded ;) )

Those 2002/2003 teams came out of no where. We could see it coming in 2001 with a lot of close games, and some decent players who turned out to be great.

The talent is better now than it was back then, minus the OL. But across the board, Iowa is a faster, bigger, and stronger team.

I just think a lot of fans would like to see a higher winning percentage against NU and IN like teams.

We compete very well against the big boys of college football, yet we continue to get killed by the lesser teams.

It's almost the opposite of the Fry teams. Hayden's teams would destroy the lesser talented teams, almost take joy in it. Yet Iowa would struggle against Michigan and OSU save a few years.

Other than OSU, Iowa has competed, and won a good amount of games against MI, PSU, MSU, and WI.

If Iowa beats everyone on their OOC schedule, and beats the bottom feeders, yet loses a game or two against the really good teams, yet competed very well, i don't think you have the yelling and moaning that's going on now.

I, too, am pleased the Hawks are "angry" and ready to play some football this week against Ohio State. What I don't understand, though, is why the Hawks weren't fired up against Indiana or, especially, NW? Weren't they angry at losing 4 of 5 to those pesky Wildcats? Weren't they determined to maintain their shot at the Big Ten title and the Rose Bowl?

I've played a little and I've coached a little, and there's no doubt there are so many variables in college football from week to week, BUT the performance in Evanston last week is still mystifying...

But that one's over, so if it takes this sense of anger to get the Hawks back on track and to upset Ohio State, so be it. But I agree that at this stage in the Iowa program, we should be embracing the role of a national power and play with with pride and passion EVERY week...

Let's set the stage on Saturday by sending the Buckeyes home wondering what happened in Iowa City...

the reason we do not play as tough against lowered tiered team is because we have something to lose against them. It is almost like we go into a game knowing that it will be tough, and then allowing it to happen instead of writing the outcome off of busting some a$$. I too hate that. Just bust a$$ no matter what right?
