Hawkeyes #1 on the current list...

I saw the list, Kirk was on top of it...just a fact, nothing pissy about it.

It is somewhat comical that a coach can get bonuses and be number one on the national list at the same time.

Whether or not a team wins or losses a bowl game doesn't really matter in regards to the following season and really one or two bowl games on their own don't mean a whole lot. Where it does matter is in the medium term in regards to the program's perception. Iowa's recent streak of bad bowl losses isn't good for perception. They have been offensively inept in the last 5 bowl games spanning back to 2011 and completely embarrassed in 2 of those games. Ending that streak to me is very important in terms of program perception. Some might think that beating a middle of the road BC team won't mean anything, but would you rather have them lose? I wouldn't.

We have a new OC...perhaps the streak will be broken...even if Iowa loses, if the offense is more creative and go for it...it will be a good thing for recruiting and fan interest.

I need to be shown that Kirk can still coach a winner...

All coaches at this level have contracts that give them bonuses for even minimal amounts of success. What's your point?

Point...paid way too much for 7-5, 6-6 seasons with 5 bowl losses in a row...some complete embarrassments...

Needs to produce a winner...beatable opponent this year...

Plus...I don't know about all coaches contracts....

I guess....why? Why do they NEED to win a bowl game this year? The way the bowls work these days unless you make the CFP or a new years 6 bowl you're just in a glorified exhibition game. Is 8-5 way better than 7-6? Does 8-5 get Iowa ranked in the top 25? Does 8-5 move Iowa up from 3rd place in the Big Ten West? Do recruits not go to Iowa because they lost the pinstripe bowl?

mcubed.net had the list...but as I looked at it again...Iowa was #1...but with only 4 bowl losses in a row...I think, Iowa has 5 in a row at this date...stand to be corrected here...so they would still be #1 but with 5 in a row since no one could supplant them from the year old list...bottom line...even more solid at #1 on the list it seems...

If they'd only won that huge TaxSlayer bowl. Would have been program defining moment.

I honestly don't think its really a big game for Kirk or Iowa at all. Without looking it up...Who won the pinstripe bowl last year? Did Georgia win their bowl game last year? Did Michigan?

Do bowl games really matter unless they're New years 6 or CFP games?

Outside of the CFP, they're all just exhibition games. But the final game of the season for all teams playing so fans make a bigger deal out of them.

Given the way the system is...with half the teams able to win their last game...to win the last game, even in an arctic bowl is the way to end it. Looking for rebuilding blocks for the Kirk family...you don't want to be "that guy" sitting on 6 bowl losses in a row for another calendar year. And now, it is even more critical...with Brian as the chosen one for the Kirk replacement..."What do you bring to the table as the possible head coach?"...."Well...dad and I have lost 9 straight bowl games."

they do for kirks contract if he finishes regular season with 6 wins. but if they don't matter any longer, then why does kirk get so much credit for making it to these bowl games? hey i'm with you on the importance of most of these bowl games because there are just too many.

At least Notre Dame is still #1 for consecutive losses in bowl games with 9. Not bad company. And it could be a strange indicator of something good. Does it mean that both get seeded too high in the bowls because of the reputations of their programs?

Correct answer. Just another game on the road and let's the players and fans play tourist. Makes it a little more exciting depending on opponent, but not hugely more than just a regular season game.

Who cares? How many people outside of Iowa know or care one bit about who has the longest current bowl losing streak?

Nobody. Nobody cares at all.

Doesn't mean a thing. I am sure Kirk and coaches care yes, more so than most fans. The game that hurt the most was 2015 Big Ten title game not any bowl game or that Rose Bowl loss. The 2015 Big Ten title game was soul crushing to players and fans more so than any bowl game loss.
