Hawkeye Recruits in Action

Tonight is the first night of high school football for many states around the country. While most Iowa recruits won't start until next week, there are a few guys that are in action tonight. Throughout the season, I'll be updating this thread every week with a schedule of Iowa's players' games, links to places we can watch online (if applicable) and score and stats updates for each game.

Here is a rundown of this weekend's action with the recruit's school listed first:
Adrian Falconer--Leesburg (FL) at Wekiva (Apopka, FL)
Justin Jinning--The Colony (TX) vs. Lewisville (TX)--Scrimmage
Emmanuel Ogwo--Horn (Mesquite, TX) at DeSoto (TX)--Scrimmage

I'll post stats when/if I can find them. I did see that the Leesburg QB had at least 2 INTs, so Falconer might have a difficult time getting the ball this year.

I know he isn't a Hawkeye commit just yet (knock on wood), but one guy I have gained a lot of respect for throughout the recruiting process is Karan Higdon. Not only has he been surprisingly honest, candid, and thoughtful in the recruiting process, but Higdon is also a 4.0 student who has medical school dreams. He's also a team captain and leader who really stepped up tonight for his community. Prior to their season opener tonight, Higdon's Riverview (Sarasota, FL) team honored the life of a 17-year old cheerleader who was killed recently. During a moment of silence prior to the game, Higdon consoled the mother of girl, and he also was the one to address the team and the cheerleaders in a large huddle prior to kickoff. Parenthetically, Higdon also rushed for a TD in his team's loss to Palmetto (FL).

Tonight marks the first full schedule for the future Hawkeyes. Here's a rundown of the games. Next to each game are relevant links if the game is available to watch online.

Nate Vejvoda--Providence Catholic (New Lenox, IL) at Joliet (IL) Catholic
Emmanuel Ogwo--Horn (Mesquite, TX) vs. Boyd (McKinney, TX)

Without a doubt, the two games to watch are Dowling vs. Xavier and Regina vs. Solon. Those are huge, huge early season games in the state of Iowa.

If you live in Eastern Iowa and get KCRG 9.2 you can watch the Regina game live on TV (and probably re-played a few times throughout the week).

Without a doubt, the two games to watch are Dowling vs. Xavier and Regina vs. Solon. Those are huge, huge early season games in the state of Iowa.
Both with solid favorites. Dowling has everyone back and Xavier lost basically their entire team from last year, and it wasn't even close then (44-13). Likewise, Regina returns everyone and Solon has like 3 players back, and this match-up hasn't been anywhere close to competitive the last 3 years (38-0, 31-7, 35-9).

Here are some final scores. I'll post more scores, game stories, and stats as they become available.
Dowling 24, Xavier 2
Solon 29, Regina 28
Austintown Fitch 49, Harding 14
Central Lyon 49, West Lyon 14
Parkston 42, Groton 0
Moroa-Forsyth 56, Meridian 6
Leesburg 42, Tavares 21
The Colony 34, Saginaw 23
Providence Catholic 21, Joliet Catholic 10

I watched the end of the Regina-Solon game. It had a great finish:

Crazy finish to regulation. Regina blocked a punt with under 90 seconds to play. They lined up for a 22 yard field goal with about 30 seconds to play, but it hit the left upright. Solon just knelt it out to take it to OT.
Regina scored a TD and XP to open OT and take a 28-21 lead. Solon responded with a TD and converted the 2-pt conversion to win 29-28. The loss snapped Regina's 56-game winning streak.

The last few final scores:
Horn 21, Boyd 15 (Ogwo had at least 1 TD)
Ridge View 12, Woodbury Central 6
Fenwick 31, Carmel 20
West Sioux 20, HMS 17

Some stats for some of Iowa's skill position players--

Emmanuel Ogwo--1 catch, 37 yards, 1 TD
Nate Vejvoda--4 yard TD catch
Drew Cook--19/26, 225 yards, 2 TDs, 13 carries, 14 yards rushing, 1 rushing TD
Ryan Boyle--11/15, 115 yards, 1 TD

See picture below for a "list" of this week's games. The games of the week are probably Ryan Boyle's Dowling vs. Urbandale (Urbandale has a couple of D1 prospects on the OL) and Emmanuel Ogwo's Horn vs. Duncanville.

Below you will find this week's schedule. The game of the game of the week is definitely Dowling vs. Waukee. This is a battle of the top two teams in the state of Iowa, and it's also a battle of the top two skill position players in the state, Ryan Boyle and Trevor Allen.

One score from last night: Heritage (Frisco) 27, The Colony 20
