This week marks the beginning of the high school football season hundreds of schools around the country and for a few future Hawkeyes. The following four players have games tomorrow night:

DE David Kenney--Pike (Indianapolis) at North Central
LB John Kenny--Carmel (IN) vs. Columbus (IN) North
TE Jon Wisnieski--Dowling Catholic (West Des Moines) at Johnston
QB Nic Shimonek--Mildred (Corsicana, TX) vs. Maypearl (Scrimmage)

Sometime after their games tomorrow night, I will update this thread with information regarding the outcome of each game.

"Hawkeye Gamefilm" tweeted that he will be at the Dowling at Johnston game. Check him out on Twitter for his observations on Wisnieski's play.

Pike leads North Central 13-6 in the 2nd quarter.

Edit: 2014 WR Dominique Booth, who Iowa is recruiting heavily, has already caught his first TD pass of the year.

Dominique Booth has scored his second TD of the night and Pike leads North Central 23-6.

Also, Carmel now has a 27-0 lead on Columbus North.

No mention of LB John Kenny here:

Carmel 27, Columbus North 7
Quarterback Brandon Lugar led the charge with three touchdowns in the third quarter as the Class 5A No. 1 Greyhounds started the 2012 campaign with a win over the Bull Dogs.
Lugar rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns and added a 57-yard scoring connection to Thomas Baldwin to break open a tight 7-0 Carmel advantage. Michael Vogel saved the shutout for Columbus North with 45 seconds remaining.

Got a decent look at TE Jon Wisnieski at the Dowling vs Johnston tonight. He only played TE tonight but did work out of the slot a fair amount. Wisnieski had limited targets in the passing game but it had more to do with the system and his QBs limitations. He's a very capable pass catching target and looked like a WR running his routes. Got to see him run a stick, hitch, drag, slant, and a 10 yard out. Would like to have seen him run some deeper routes, particularly a seam and corner, but it wasn't in the game-plan tonight. Very fluid in his cuts for his size and he has pretty loose hips. Most impressive catch of the night for him was a slant for a first down on 3rd and long out of the slot. He had press coverage with a safety over the top. He chopped his feet and faked an outside release and planted and drove back to the inside and ran away from the first defender, caught the ball on the run and picked up 10+ yards before going down. Excellent receiving skills.

As a blocker he was effective overall and did a good job locking his arms out on his defender when blocking down. He wasn't overwhelmingly physical as a blocker but did drive a few guys around and put them on the turf a few times. His technique and footwork could use some polish but when he got his hands on his man he kept him out of the play. In general it was clear Wisnieski was a cut above his competition in terms of overall athleticism.

Overall I'm impressed with him as a prospect. He'll have plenty of room to add bulk to his frame and looks like he could carry 250+ down the line without losing his athleticism. He looks like a legit 4* TE prospect to me.
