Having tired of the Tebow Media Machine during the...

...last four years, I am thinking I will make it a point to go to the bathroom during the Tim Tebow commercial on Super Bowl Sunday. I don't think the message matters to me. As a matter of fact, if it was just a regular commercial I still think I would make it a point to miss it. It really isn't about the message, it is about the person delivering it, in this case.

Who is with me?

I do not really mind Tebow, i guess i just havent thought much.

The biggest shock to me was seeing the report on ABC World News tonight...the female being interviewed in the clip is someone i've met many times and my wife went to high school with.

If Tebow were the one creating the "Tebow Hype Machine" I think you'd have a legit beef. Considering he did very little to feed the machine, I think if you are watching it simply because of him your hatred is mis-directed.

IMO...

I think what Tebow has done for so many people is great. However, I don't like that ESPN and others have made it sound like his humanitarian efforts are rare amongst college athletes. They could have done a much better job using Tebow's notoriety to show people the other side of the college sports world and how many of these kids are doing many of the same things.

I think most people are upset not with Tebow, but in one way or another the way he has been the love child of ESPN and others for the past 4 years. Unfortunately for him this has meant some misdirected hate and a feeling of joy for many whenever he has a little slip up on the field.

+1

A good example!

'Princess Jenna' an inspiration to Iowa football players

I don't think publicizing Tebow takes away from what others do. What Ricky does is great, and he did get plenty of publicity for it. However, the reason Tebow gets more attention is because Tebow is one of, if not the greatest player in the history of the game.

There is a reason they made Space Jam starring Michael Jordan and not Mitch Richmond. Great players on great teams get more attention. I cannot fault him for being a great player and a great guy. He earned all of the attention he got.

yep

Perhaps I should have better expressed myself, as some others in this post did.

I don't have anything against him either. I just don't think after having him shoved down my throat by the media for four years that I need to see anymore of him than I already have. And it has been made quite apparent that the commercial isn't going to be one of the "entertaining" variety we typically see during the Super Bowl.

My bad if I came off petty or hateful. That was not the intent. Although, I have to admit I thought there would be more responses, given the subject.

Football season ended, for me, when the clock hit all zeroes in the Alabama-Texas game (although I will watch the high school and college "all-star" games if I happen to flip to it on TV).

The Super Bowl isn't about football, it's about nonsensical and/or clever advertisements. Is it good football? Sure. But it's not college football, and 4/5/6/7-loss teams can, theoretically, make it to the Super Bowl even when it's obvious they aren't the "best" teams.

Yes, it's a playoff and not a poll, but the bowl system rewards the best/most-consistent teams for their SEASON. The NFL playoff system features announcers who make Pam Ward seem quaint and cute, a whole mess of domed stadiums that take weather out of the equation and an overtime format that too often rewards a team based on a coin flip.

I don't mind Tebow. He seems like a good kid. What has bothered me this week anyway is ESPN's coverage of the Senior Bowl. It has pretty much been all about Tebow and how he's trying to make it as a QB. I understand them talking about that and breaking it down, but I'd like to hear about some of the other players there as well. It's pretty much just seemed like Tebow is the only player there of consequence.

Hawkeyehat, what made you think this week's coverage would be any different? Of course you are going to get Tebow, Tebow and more Tebow.

I get this, but....

When looking at this past year it would seem by most standards (albeit standards he set by himself) he took several steps back. His stats were lower, the team struggled at times, and they got beaten by a team when great quarterback play was needed to win. On top of that an effort was made by Florida to change the system to help him at the next level and he struggled with it. Is this a reason to dog the kid? Absolutely not, but it didn't seem to slow down the stories or even a trip to the Heisman either.

He is by all means a great player, but I personally believe much of this year was manufactured by the likes of ESPN because they had invested so much in his story. A story I think could have been used to highlight some other great stories around the country.

There's no right or wrong answer, this is just my opinion.

You realize that no one cares about the senior bowl, and this year the senior bowl sold out, when ordinarily they can't give the tix away.

Any thought on why that is?
