Why did Payne have to launch the three at the buzzer? The line was Michigan -4 and I was sitting so pretty at the end. I won the over - easily and then he had to go and do that. WTF Cully, WTF?

Just about the only good part to this season has been the lines.

And another thing; how do you sandwich a 40 point game that set a record for futility between two 78 point games?

Thats what you get for betting against your own team.

That's what my wife said too.

I wasn't cheering for Michigan AT ALL during the game up until we missed the layup down by three and the Michigan guy got fouled. I still didn't cheer for them until he made the first free throw and I thought that at worst I was going to push. Then when he made the second I gave a little fist pump. Next thing I know Cully is sprinting down the court and launches an uncontested three and it goes in. I go from being up to paying the juice. Fitting end I guess.

Contrary to popular belief I want Iowa to win every game that we play but I'm a realist and when I look at this team there isn't a snowballs chance in he!! of winning most games so I choose to place bets figuring that if I can't enjoy the game, I can at least stay interested when money is on the line and it works most of the time. I hit big when Iowa beat NW at home. Made a little more than 1.5 to 1 on the bet. The game that absolutely killed me was the Purdue game. I had Iowa +19 and the over. I figured no way we get clobbered by more than 19 but if we did then at the very least the score would have been over 129. Boy was I wrong. Only game this year that I've lost both sides.

I have never understood how you bet against your own team. I am p!ssed if they lose, and if I made money on top of that, I would feel like a slim. For instance I bet Iowa in the OB, but I bet the money line, as I didn't want to make money if we lost by 3.

In my opinion you got what you deserved betting against your team!!

If betting against Iowa will make me feel slim i migh have to start doing it...

Cully cost me money against ISU that way aa well.

I have no problem betting on or against ISU. You are more informed about your favorite team so you can make a better bet if you can keep your heart out of it.

When your team is 9-16 or whatever our record is you shouldnt feel guilty betting against your own team. However, you should do it on the road only because we actually play pretty well at home. Iowa has been pretty good ATS the last month or so

More tragic than betting against your own team is being so desperate for action that you need to bet on games between horrible teams.

You can generally get better lines on this type of game.

So far this year I have placed one bet when Iowa wasn't involved.

I bet on the Olympics earlier this week so i cant really rag on someone for betting on this game, and i bet on Iowa so thank you Cully

Thanks for making the loss to Michigan more palletable. Thank you Cully for sinking that shot.

Answer me this then. I don't gamble, and I don't get it, and I know that no matter how smart you are, if you gamble, you are going to lose. The odds are stacked against you to win.

That being the case, and everyone knowing it, I know people like to gamble because it makes the games more interesting. However, why would you gamble on games that you have a personal interest in? Is it not interesting enough already, or do you just have a bunch of cash you are trying to get rid of?

So you posted here, told everyone that not only did you bet against your team, but instead of congratulating them for proving you wrong, you were upset that they played better than you thought they would? And you wanted what... sympathy?

You've watched Iowa play this year right? I have and I wouldn't really consider what they put on the floor 'entertainment' so to speak. So in order to stay interested in the games I decided early on to put some money on the line. I've watched probably 90% of the games live and followed another 8% on my 'berry and have not followed only one game all year.

I put money on the game so that I am almost forced to watch the game to the very end. Even the Purdue game where we scored 40 points and were blown out by 20+ I watched to the very end. I can say with 100% conviction that if I hadn't placed a wager on that game then I would have turned it off before the game was over.

Watching this team isn't fun. We aren't playing for anything. I've got other things that I could be doing so I've decided that a few hundred on the game keeps me interested enough to watch the product.

Now as to your assumption that all gambling turns in to losing, I can assure you that isn't always the case. Card games and games of chance certainly favor the house but sports betting levels the playing field and knowledge is key. Vegas insiders set the lines based on their information, history and many other variables. If you have some or all of that same information then you aren't just guessing anymore. Chance certainly plays a part but not nearly as big a part as you might think. This year my group is winning at a 9 to 4 clip. We keep it simple and will play the line and the o/u on each game with the expectation that at worst we pay the juice and move to the next one. We've only been wrong one game all year (purdue). Last year we won a little over 70% of the games.
