Have we completed an alley-oop since Tyler Smith left?

I can't seem to recall a single completed alley oop dunk by Iowa BB since Tyler Smith left.

I miss Mr. Davis running the back screen alley oop lob pass as a regular part of the Hawk offense.

We've had at least one to May this year. Not a ferocious dunk, but I think it would still be a dunk.

I remember hearing that while still at Cincy, Bob Huggins incorporated the "3 point" looking alley oop and they actually called it "Iowa" when they'd set up the play.

My favorite part of the play was when a TV anouncer who had not done a Tom Davis coached game would say - the shot, oh, it's an airball, no, wait ... Iowa scores.

"I'm not sure that was intentional but it sure worked out well for the Hawkeyes!" after Iowa fans had seen it 29 times during the season already...

To me, my favorite combo of the Mr. Davis alley oop play was Woolridge to Daryl Moore - Woolridge had a knack for really making it look like he was shooting a 3 and Moore was no more than 6ft 3in, but he could really get up and finish at the rim. I also remember the lob being run for Bowen a lot, but even though he was 6ft 9in, he would always lay it in and never hammer it down. James Skywalker Winters was another guy who was on the receiving end of a lot of these alley oop plays in the Mr. Davis era.

Lamest play ever! why do you need to do a fake a shot? its all about the guy getting open on the receiving end not how the guy throwing the lob throws it...worst play ever, Im sorry it just looks awful and makes no sense.

see my post below. Why does he need to pretend he's shooting a 3? why? WHY?!?!?! WHY?!?!?!

It exploits the week-side D then the other team needs to honor it to an extent. The "shot" is just to disquise it a bit I suppose so the weak-side D doesn't rotate over & catch-up in time. There is a reason not many teams run it.

Because if the defense thinks it's a genuine shot attempt, they are going to start working for a rebound, when if it's a pass they are going to be going after the ball.

As Lick said about blocks ''I am not a big fan'', I suspect he is not a big fan of dunks either. And since we never seem to back door in our offense, probably not a big fan of alley-oops either. If they did not do something in the movie ''Hoosiers'' then lick is not a fan of it.
