Hating on Wegher

Why so much hate for Wegher? I do not judge people on internet rumors. He has problems no doubt. I do not know all the facts, so I am withholding judgment.

good point.

he left the hawks, so he's open game for most.

kind of like turkeys - if you ever see their behavior, if one of their own gets hurt, the healthy mob will attack and try to kill. kind of like the behavior you'll see on this board.

then you also have the know-it-all types like Mr. Play to Win.

I don't dislike the kid at all. l am, however, very disappointed in his choices. He had a very promising career.

I like the analogy, imaginary positive rep to you.

So we are all supposed to assume he has had personally issues that were not his fault and he quit 2 football teams in less than a year because of them? OK, sure.

Oh wait. Pretty sure someone would have said if that were the case. Him. He messed up, left Iowa. He went to OK and left shortly thereafter. You expect no one to give him some hate/crap? Let me guess, you think Charlie Scheen is actually addicting to winning?

I view it more as a father being disappointed in his child. We had vested interest in his success and he keeps hindering himself from getting there.

I agree. And even fathers probably talk some crap about their 20 yr old son who is making very poor decisions.

I picture Wegher in 20 years sitting at the end of the bar with a huge beer gut having fathered about 4 kids with 4 different women talking about his glory days in the Orange Bowl.

Some people just don't get it. Especially the pampered ones that were handed just about every opportunity in the world and peed it down their leg.

doubtful that it is comparable to what some have said about him on this board.

as a father of four, I would never 'talk crap' about my kids, especially to other people, let alone strangers.

I agree 100 percent the negative vibes toward Wegher have surprised me. It is too easy to sit back and pass judgment on other people and what they should or shouldn't be doing. Only Wegher truly knows his thought process. It is not up to us to label him a "screw up" or how he "blew his opportunity" etc.

In my life, I know I have made decisions in the past that, after looking back, might not be the same decision I would make today. That's life. We learn and hopefully grow.

I really hope Brandon gets his life to where he wants it to be. Brandon getting his affairs in order -- for Brandon -- are much more important than what he can do for us (Hawkeye fans) on the football field for four years.

I guess I would view that kind of parent as a POS.
Disappointed, mad, yelling etc. but never talk crap on a world wide forum.
And much of what is said is not crap talk its hatred coming out.
Simple pack mentally from people that wanted someone else to succeed or are jealous of his abilities in some way.
Bottom line this is kid was talented and had a chance to do something special and he screwed up. Could be alot of reasons no one knows for sure but we do know he has had alot of **** land on his plate in the 20 mos. and it would be tough for anyone.
I had some of the same experiences in college and it cost me almost 2 yrs to get my **** out of it and I wasn't a D1 athlete.
I talked to the kid twice and in those short conversations he was humble and shy. Is that a total reflection of his persanality not at all but its sure different than many posting here paint him.
Now that I have gotten that out there let me put a stamp on it for the people that feel this kind of bashing "is your right","he brought it on himself" crowd.
It may make feel cool to join in or helps your self esteem to be part of the crowd but all it really shows is your true character. Shows who the REAL POS's are!

For me it was not him quitting but how he went about it. Given the lack of communication he provided before and since along with the fact he quit after press day preseason; it's hard not to assume he is punishing coach or shyting on Iowa in general. That's my beef. Karma's a ***** BW.

An English teachers nightmare....LOL

Love how some get all pious and preach "no judgment", then judge their selective targets who they've deemed "judgers".

Don't confuse "hate" with lack of compassion or empathy. Don't confuse "hate" with cynical, sarcastic skepticism and speculation. No one here curses the kid with injury or death. Most I've seen are calling it how it is ...

Young man had issues. Young man was widely supported and encouraged to deal with those issues. Young man was always welcomed back when ready. After all this support, flexibility and grace, young man jilted those who offered it and transferred. At the very least, it appears he was somewhat deceitful and certainly disloyal and ungrateful.

Young man had open-ended opportunity, support and encouragement but spit in the eye of all of it. He needs to bottom-out before he figures it out and doesn't need enablers perpetuating his problems. For that, could care less about his problems (we all have them). Don't care to ever see him in an Iowa uniform, again.

I think some folks are getting tired of the Wegher fanboys that start thread after thread about a mediocre football player.

Let it go, folks. He ain't come back and we don't need him to come back.

How do we know what he told Ferentz? He doesn't have to keep an open line of communication with the fans and general public. Ferentz was the only one who needed to know what was on Wegher's mind.

KF told you time and time again last fall what the level of communication was from BW. Zip. Nada. He intentionally kept KF in the dark like a child trying to punish a parent. Now he reaps what he has sown. He'll be the answer to trivia questions instead of an admired Hawkeye.
