Hate to bring this up

If the athletic department gave Steve Alford a third of the support they're giving plan C here, he would have multiple sweet 16 runs.

His wife was very sexy if you're into slightly chubby blonde MILFs. And if you're not, you're probably not a straight man.

Fran will win more NCAA games at Iowa than Alford as well, it is just a matter of time.

The Alford era was frustrating, all the talent they had and nothing really to show for it...not even one NCAA tournament win.

Please keep in mind that will only be true if Fran STAYS at Iowa long enough.

(This isn't directed at you sportstalent) But I find it funny that many people on this board mock and laugh at ISU over Paul Rhoads being named in possible jobs at other schools for his success at ISU. But yet many people don't realize that Fran is sitting in the same boat. If Fran makes the move at Iowa to the next level he is going to be named for alot of places considering the horrible shape this program was at and he is on the brink of a possible NCAA bid.

There is a little truth in this, but Alford's demeanor and selling his soul for PP didn't help.

When it comes down to it, if Iowa said they were going to upgrade facilities and didn't under Alford, then that is Iowa's fault and maybe the program wouldn't have fallen as far as it did.

That said, it doesn't bother me Alford is gone whatsoever and realistically, he didn't leave a lot of talent at Iowa when he left. There were so many problems during the Alford era that got exacerbated once he left. Iowa was in no position to hire a coach who had never had to build a program, Iowa was not in a position to compete at a high level in the BIG when Alford left and Iowa flat out hired the wrong guy to replace him.

It would have been interesting if Iowa would have hired Fran right after Alford, or a guy like Fran.

This is a very good point.

How many other BCS conference mens basketball teams had to fight with their volleyball team for practice time in the same arena?

You forgot the quotes around Rhodes "success". When you're high win mark comes in year one you aren't really going to another level.

For ISU winning 6-7 games a year on average is "success" in their book. Also Rhoads had a "dog crap team" when he got to ISU and they are going bowling pretty much annually now.

But you missed the point, his "mediocre success" at ISU has caused his name to be thrown in to many job openings and Iowa fans love to get on ISU fans about it all because ISU fans believe he wants to stay at ISU.

But yet no one here seems to think maybe Fran might use this as a stepping stone job considering he also had a "dog crap team" when he got to Iowa.

I didn't miss the point at all. It's just a dumb point. Iowa is a school that has had real basketball success, Final Four, in the past and moderate success, nearly annual top 25 rankings, in the not too distant past. For Iowa St football on the other hand, just finishing not last in their conference is considered a successful season.

Also Rhoads is 45, Fran is 53. Not many big time programs are coming after a coach in his mid 50's.

Fran inherited a terrible team and is 40-39 through 79 games.

Alford inherited a sweet 16 team and was 49-31 through 79 games. After 8 years Alford was 152-106 and was 61-67 in Big10 play.

In his 3rd year Alford was just getting warmed up, by guiding the Hawks to 3 consecutive NIT's. In 8 years (in which Alford began the downward spiral of a once great program) he made the NCAA's 3 times, winning 1 game in the big dance. If Fran only makes 3 NCAA tournament in 8 years, I will also call him a failure. If Fran only wins 1 tournament game in 8 years, he is a failure.

Sorry, but you are judged by your results.....and Alford's were pathetic.

Iowa hasn't been to the final four in over how many years? Atleast 20 if not 30. That kind of history isn't going to keep Fran here.

And also his age, are you kidding me?

AD's don't like at a coach and say "Is he going to be here 10 or 20 years?" "Oh look at his age, he is in his early 50's"

Wow, and you call my post dumb.

You're right. There's a tremendous precedent for basketball coaches in their mid to late 50's moving from one major conference job to another, coaches such as __________.

Fill in the blank ******* Dave.

I agree with this, he had a lot to do with Iowa's fall than what people want to believe.

How many offseasons were there when someone wasn't arrested or left the team...zero

There was a culture in Iowa City that turned toxic because Lickliter was over his head from day one. People blame Lickliter for a lot of things, but it was just a bad hire he inherited a mess. All people can point to is Alfords record because they think that is all that matters, it isn't, especially not at Iowa when your chances to win a NC come along only a few times in their history. Graduating kids and running a respectable program come first, then better players show up and stay. Look at the three coaches prior to Alford, not a lot of players coming and going during their tenures. Graduating and developing players, then get some pretty good players coming in, it takes time.

Bruce Webber is 56. Final Four, national title appearance. Big Ten champ. Went from Illinois to K-State. Guess you've never heard of him. Idiot.

Oh, well then why we don't go out and hire Bill freaking Carmody? Moron.

He got fired. *******. Like usual, another disappointing basketball effort by you. Just stick to football champ.

He moved between major conferences in his mid 50's. Guess you don't know how to read. Try again. You're a bigger failure of a poster than Tim Floyd was as a coach when he went to the Bulls.

Roy Williams. Left the school that invented basketball for another one at age 53 I believe.

That and Mike Anderson going to Arkansas were the two I thought of, but they both were slightly younger than Fran would be. They also had significant ties to those programs. So unless Notre Dame comes calling, I think we'll be safe.
