Realize that a player making it to the NBA or any of the overseas leagues is as much a product of the player's own talent and abilities. But perhaps that is also central to the question.
Has Lickliter coached a player to the pros?

Although it doesn't guarantee success in the pros, it generally means you were successful at the college level which is what we are concerning ourselves with...

I think the point is the quality/ability of a player the coach is able to attract to a program.

I don't think Mr. Davis or Lute could have coached some of the players we have had on the roster during Lick's coaching stint here at Iowa to the pros. I'm willing to guess that there haven't been many players from Butler in the history of their program go pro. I'm not sure this is a real fair comparison.

Don't be surprised if Looby gets there. With his size he might just end up as a roster player.

I'm not sure the name of his team. A lot of NBA teams are looking for a roster player with his raw ability. It wouldn't surprise me.

How many did did Mr. Davis have after Raveling's recruits were gone? Ryan Bowen, Ricky Davis...Did Woolridge or Kingsbury ever play a game in the league? JR Koch? Les Jepsen? There were not many.

His best chance got killed in a major tragedy. I never understood how a player could lead the big ten in scoring and assists and not get a sniff. Woolridge not getting a chance was a mystery to me.

To never have a player drafted after all the years he has coached says a couple of things about Lickliter:
1) the system he uses does not attract the NBA caliper of player,
2) he cannot recruit the NBA caliper of player,
3) he simply has never recruited an NBA caliper plyer and coaching at Butler that is not hard to believe, and (or)
4) he does not want to recruit an NBA caliper of player because this type of player might want to leave early and his sytem requires upper classmen. He has already commented on this if I am not mistaken?
He is trying to recruit Randle but is Randle an NBA caliper player? If he does get Randle, he will be one of the better players he has ever recruited at the guard position. I am not holding my breath about getting Randle however.

Matt Bullard. He transferred in from Colorado when Mr. Davis was coach. Played 88-89, 89-90.

Although there is a "diamond in the rough" on occassion that comes out of mid-majors such as Butler, there is not a whole lot of NBA talent at the mid-major level. That is the level at which Lickliter coached prior to joining the Hawkeyes. Moreover, Lickliter's first recruiting class at Iowa has not even graduated yet. I would not expect him to have a list of NBA players having played for him--that simply is not a realistic expectation. Further, even if he spends 15 years at Iowa, I would not anticipate a very long list, either, based on previous Iowa coaches' production (as Jon pointed out). This is not a standard by which Lickliter should be judged at this time, and may not even be a particularly relevant standard in judging Coach Lickliter years from now.
