Has Kirk ever pulled qb?

Has Kirk ever pulled the starting qb due to bad play in the middle of a game? I was thinking maybe he did once with Tate in '05 but I can't remember for sure.
 
In 2008, he pulled Ricky Stanzi from the ISU game, and Jake engineered a comeback win. Then the next week, he started Jake, but put in Ricky in the 2nd qtr, then went back to Jake in the 2nd half...we lost, and then he named Ricky the starter for good.

It's impressive that people can remember those types of details.

I was remembering that situation as Kirk giving them both a shot more so than pulling a qb mid game based off bad preformance. I might be wrong though.

2006 at Minnesota. Tate throws pick mid-3rd quarter, Minnesota marches for a TD to make it 27-17. Christensen comes in for a series. After a bunch of runs and one completed pass, Christensen throws a bad pick that Minnesota converts into a 34-17 score. Tate finishes the game.

McCann and Banks were pulled at various times in 2001, not sure if they were starters. I think Banks started one game and was pulled. In another McCann was pulled or at least rotated out,

I wonder if this decision still haunts Kirk and that is why he is so reluctant to make a switch?

I doubt it. I was at the game with my son and I think tate threw a pick right at the end of the first half with goal to goal situation.

Later Tate was really blowing up at KOK iirc on the sideline in the 2nd half.

I liked tate's fire but he needed to cool down.

Remember, 2006 was the year the receivers seemed to drop a lot of passes and fumble a few after catches. Tate i assume just was frustrated that year that started so promising.

I don't remember Banks ever starting a game in '01.

Yeah, I don't remember the details, but I know both of those guys saw a decent amount of action, but I thought McCann was the starter most of the year. I'm not sure if either was pulled due to performance or if it was just a change of pace switch.. It's been too long.

Yes, Tate being pulled was probably as much about his hot head as his poor play.
 
I pretty much agree that when Stanzi was pulled against ISU in 2008, it was for poor play. The score was 3-3 at end of 3rd. Christensen came in during the 4Q, and led a TD drive that included a lot of Shonn Greene to put Iowa up 10-3, then Andy Brodell returned a punt for a TD and Iowa won 17-3.

Sigh. I wish someone would have reminded Kirk of this during the game this year.

I have to agree on the temper thing. I vaguely remember him getting pulled but I'm not sure if it was for the game or a few plays. Was this the game where he slammed his helmet on the turf in disgust?
