Has Harbaugh earned all of this attention? What do you think?

All of a sudden Harbaugh is the hottest thing since the invention of the microwave. What do you think? Is he worth all of the attention he is garnering? He has done a nice job with Stanford but do you think he warrants a $5 million contract with Stanford? Or a $6 or $7 million job with an NFL team?

I know it is the name of the game. A coach has two good seasons at a school and all of a sudden that coach is a candidate for every possible opening. Harbaugh does have valuable experience as a player and a coach .... What are your thoughts? Is Harbaugh that good of a coach to command that type of salary? Has he proven himself enough to command that type of salary (and yes, I know the going rate for coaches keeps going up and up)?

Maybe he has a bit of pedigree being a former NFL QB and having deep family coaching ties. What he did this year was impressive, no doubt. He was helped along by a Heisman candidate QB. I really only saw Stanford play a few quarters before the bowl game. It looks like he's a player's coach. All of those things make him the next big thing. Does that make him worthy of a top dollar coaching gig in college football or the NFL? Not sure.

Of course he deserves it. NFL owners are not the kind of idiots who throw money at a guy just because sportscenter told them to. Just like hiring a no-name coach out of upstate New York revitalized our BB program, hiring a great young coach with a track record and a ton of positive energy will reviatalize an NFL franchise. Watch the season tickets sell!

But what really fueled this whole thing is having Andrew Luck. A decent QB will make an average coach look good. But having an Andrew Luck can make a very good coach look like a genius.

And really, I think that's the biggest thing. If Stanford had an average QB this year and went 8-4, Harbaugh would still be a candidate for many jobs, but not with these outrageous salary offers.

Michigan might have gotten him there for 3 mil.

Here's "Diamond" Jimmy Harbaugh sucking down a beer during the post-bowl presser, alongside A Luck.

Just to be fair. San Diego was 8-2 the year prior to him joining the staff there in 2004. It's not like they were chumps. They had a good team in NCAA DII in a fertile recruiting area for DII athletes..

No way is that a can of beer. Not a chance.

My eyes are telling me it's one of these. I grabbed that screen shot off of my 47" 1080P LCD monitor - it was pretty clear, which is why I backed up my DVR and took the pic. JH kept the can on the floor, not on the table with the mic. He had to reach down to get it, and he only grabbed it when Luck started taking questions - my conclusion was that he thought he was no longer on camera.
Mind you, I don't care one bit; I found it funny. I like Harbaugh - I think he's a hoot and a true players' coach and he doesn't back down from any one/any thing.

Well Luck has been on his side. Pun intended.

As said above; a good QB makes you look like a genius coach.

He did it at San Diego...then at Stanford...this is normal in sports the hottest thing is what everyone wants. Think about how quickly teams switch offenses to emulate what the new fad is. I remember seeing a lot of Pistol and Wildcat offenses and emulating of Urban Meyer's offense because they were new fads. Same with coaches he is the hottest one so everyone wants him. If he doesn't do the same thing he did at other places he will be turned on just as quickly.

When you are top of your game you on top. with all the terrible coaching in the NFL right time right place. hope he fairs better than the likes of the old bal coach, saban, patrino, and davis. Would be nice to get the 49 ers back to the top. Pro footbal on the west coast sux
