DAmn that guy is intense. And those practices are intense. How do you think Urban's practices compare to Kirk's if you had to guess?

I would guess that at the FBS level most teams have practices that are pretty intense. I would think that Ferentz is a bit more reserved during practice than Meyer judging on what we see on this sidelines during games.

Guys like Doyle and B Ferentz are not only there because of their coaching but they most likely play the in your face coaching roles. I would guess there are some other coaches on staff that have that fire as well, we just don't hear about it.

Don't you think players would respond better if their leader was the one doing this and not just a position coach and strenght coach? I bet Kirk gets into it on the practice field more than most would think.

The way coach K got in people face seemed to turn a few people off. Would Kirk have his new coaches doing the same? Personally, I don't think so.

There's a difference between screaming and yelling like a maniac and just having good intensity which is what i see in meyer.

I don't think so. Plus KF stresses greatness, but in a different way. He doesn't have to yell at them before or after practice. He stress to the kids that you work everyday as hard as you can. This means during the season, during the off season, all the time, to achieve greatness. That is why I have the picture that I do by my screen name. KF preaches breaking that rock one day at a time to bring out your greatness. This approach is going to work much better than yelling it at them one time before practice.

I've heard the BTN guys say during their spring and fall camp visits that Iowa has the best organized, and get the most out of every minute of practice that they see.

I've read guys who have actually been at practice say KF is pretty intense/fiery during practice, much more so than when the lights are on during game day. Not in a Bo Polini maddog way

I've been to a few practices via the coaches clinic they put on each year. You generally spent several sessions in the bubble with various position coaches and then were able to watch a practice. I would say that there were brief bursts of intensity (although nothing I would call fiery), but they were few and far between. In the practices I saw, I expected him to be a little more involved. I can't really imagine him changing his behavior just because a slew of high school coaches were watching...

Personally i think it is a joke to have that on ESPN, talk about a huge recruiting tool.

Agreed, although instead of using "joke" I'd say "genius move by Meyer/OSU".

It is kind of bullspit though because Meyer used to work at ESPN so that probably aided in getting that coverage.

I love that OSU is branding themselves as some sort of rising of the phoenix situation, and Urban is saying that none of those guys who won championships years ago are here. Seems like he is not too confident in his team or is doing the usual first year is going to be very tough coach speak.

I had a buddy who once blocked a punt on scout team, when they were told not too at the moment, and Ferentz said "God d*&nit... your not supposed to block the punt, (my roomate)! Your a#* will be off this team if you pull some sh$8 like that again." Then he went on to chew out the punt protection team for letting him through. However, a few days later I think he told him to keep playing hard like that and he appreciates the effort, or something like that. I've also heard him tell players they are not in the NFL yet, so I don't think Ferentz is as laid back as we all think he is during interviews and what not.

I have been watching them and they are pretty interesting. But I definately have a few problems with it. First and foremost, this should be on the BTN and not ESPN. The only reason it is on ESPN is because Meyer used to work there. Which I think is BS, I think the conference should be mad about it and so should other B1G teams. I assume OSU is getting some sort of financial gain from this and that should be on the BTN and shared with other teams.
As another poster mentioned, it is a huge recruiting tool. I personally feel it gives OSU add'l unfair advantages that they probably don't need. See financial ramifactions above and as a recruiting tool.
Finally, I think its BS that a team that is currently on probabtion for NCAA violations can go on national TV daily and show this stuff. This is basically OSUs version of Hard Knocks. Not to say it isn't a smart idea by OSU, I just don't think its fair or reasonable.

I hate that they get all that pub,but I do think that they are going to be good this year. Their QB is perfect for Meyer's system, and they always have tons of talent at all the other slots. I would not be shocked if they ran the table this year, which in a way would be the best revenge for their cheating ways....imagine the gnashing of teeth in Columbus if they went 12-0 and then went home...a national title shot wasted due to ''The Vest''....oh the angst...
I hope they beat MSU,Michigan and Nebraska...no chance of Iowa playing them,so if they go 12-0..fine. We will go to the Rose Bowl at 10-2 and be very happy.

He physically threw Nate Kaeding into the cold tub after a practice. Nate told the trainers he didnt feel like treating his leg after practice one day. Ferentz got word and sprinted from his office to Nate in the locker room and physically pulled him out of the locker room and threw him in the tub. Hilarious story and true.

I hate 'em, but I can't disagree with that.

There's a difference between being a complete ******* all the time and actually getting after kids and teaching

Yes there is a difference, and Bo Pelini doesn't know what that difference is. We'll see if Bo ever becomes the dean of B1G coaches like our Kirk. I'm betting HELL NO!
