Hard to believe...well maybe not....Iowa is in the driver's seat in the West

If you believe tOSU is going to kill Wisconsin, there is even a game to loose and still be crowned West Campions for All Eternity.

Maybe. I hate to say this, but Braska has a dogshit remaining schedule and with two losses if they win out they would have the tie break against Iowa.

I really doubt they are winning all 3 against Maryland @Wisconsin and Iowa. That’s a heck of a lot harder than Iowa and Wisconsin (sanz tOSU loss) have left.

They may be in the driver's seat, but they need to fix 4th gear. It tends to want to stick towards neutral.

First week watching Iowa football? They’ve been winning 70% of their games like that for quite a while now. Doesn’t work against the big boys but Hawks won’t see one of those til December.

You keep acting like this level of Iowa offensive incompetence has been par for the course over the past 23 years. It most definitely has not. Through most of KF's tenure at Iowa, their offense has been around middle of the pack with regard to offensive efficiency. In 2021 they were 92nd, last year they were 102nd, and this year they are 120th. This is the offense that helped Iowa to 7-5 last year, keeping them out of the B1G championship game in a very weak B1G West during a season that they had the best Iowa D in the modern era.

I enjoy every win they can sneak out with this offense, but the margin for error is very small when your offense generates so little.

If McNamara starts the year with a healthy leg muscle and not getting a season ending injury, and if Luke doesn't get removed after week 2 I think the numbers are better this year than last. Not saying top 50 better but in the realm of 75 to 90 is most definitely reasonable.

Well, we are going to find out next year. CM and Luke will be back next year….IMO, Kirk and Brian will be back next year. We are definitely going to find out against a tougher schedule.

Yep agreed, but keep in mind Washington loses Penix after his 99th year of eligibility, UCLA doesn't scare me, OSU will most likely be an L.

I’m definitely not insinuating that, but Iowa has been winning like this for awhile, even despite the offense. I can’t remember a time in school history that they’ve consistently won over 70% of their games over this long of stretch. Now you want to say that Iowa has better offenses throughout Kirks career and I’d never argue they haven’t, they have. But it’s been this recipe the whole time right? Iowa has leaned on D and ST to win ball games and always has under KF. Iowa has won games like last Saturday more times than I can count. Now you want to say that it’s against bad teams. Fine I’ll hear that too but the coaches can only go out and play who’s on the schedule and they’ve got one job, win games. They’ve been good at that. Rather than hang out staff for the offense, I commend them for knowing exactly who they are. I commend them for knowing how to win. Theyve been good at getting leads and then choking out teams with their D. Smart with this kind of talent pool we have. This is how Kirk wants to win and in the B1G West as it stands, it’s been a pretty good fomula.

As the running game is starting to build momentum, it is intriguing to think about having a healthy Cade, Lachey, and All. That seems like a pretty competent offense. But we won't see them for the rest of the year.

In 2004 we had injuries nearly as calamitous (top how many RB?), and Iowa was 70th out of 120 in scoring (we are currently 103rd), and they were second in the big ten in passing yards per game and passing efficiency. In short, they had a balanced enough team that they had a backup plan. Can this staff show enough ingenuity, and do they have a balanced enough offensive roster, to make some offensive lemonade over the last 5 games?

I really can’t put the Penn St game in the “so good” column, as much as I try.
not good at all, but even the most optimistic Iowa fan likely didn't have them better than 6-1 at this point. It's ok to enjoy Iowa football.

Happy for the win. Any victory in Madison should be cherished. I love the kids on this team. After all, it is about the players, not the coaches or fans. They don't construct the offense or make the play calls, they just try to execute what is called. I thought our offensive line and backs were magnificent against the Badgers last Saturday, knowing that Wisconsin knew we were going to run the ball on almost every down.

Thrilled we are bowl eligible. I believe that is 22 out of the last 23 years, or something like that. Quite amazing, actually. I hope they get a warm weather bowl....that is more fun for the team.

Kirk has won 71% of his games from 2015 on. That is by far the greatest stretch of excellence in Iowa football history over a nine year period.

I think there are more victories ahead, but we have had devastating injuries. All of the games will be nail-biting affairs.

I'm not getting my hopes up about the Big Ten West, but honestly all of the other teams in the West have issues too. If we beat Minnesota, I will start to hope! It is going to be a classic "let-down" game.

Looking forward to some more exciting games and a game or games in the post-season!

This has been a very enjoyable season so far, but I feel so badly for McNamara and All (and for all of those that have been injured). Two outstanding young men. They will continue to lead from the sidelines, I believe. They will have bright futures, whatever they decide to do with their lives. Two exemplary players and young men.

It is a brutal game. It is heartbreaking to see the injuries, but hopefully they will recover 100%.
