Happy 88th B-Day Hayden Fry

Thank You Hayden Fry for pulling Iowa out of a 2 decade slump and setting the program on the Path to a brighter future.

I love Hayden Fry.

He is leaps and bounds above if only for two things he brought to Iowa; 1. The Tigerhawk logo. This has become one of the most recognizable logos in all of college football. 2. The passing game. He single handedly brought the B1G from a 3 yards and a cloud of dust league to a passing league. KF has taken our program back to 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

And who can forget him getting all those feminists up in the air? Oh, and the pink locker room?

What has KF done that makes this program different than any other in the league or nation?

Agree about the general premise. Purdue, IL, Indiana would argue about the 3 yard thing. Jim Harbaugh was a Michigander at about that time. I would guess that IL and Purdue passed more than Iowa back then.

Tony Eason threw for over 3000 yards 2x. Long never did. Herman for Purdue did. So did Everette 2x.

Anyway, congrats Hayden. You are one of the best in so many ways as a human being

Thank You Hayden Fry for pulling Iowa out of a 2 decade slump and setting the program on the Path to a brighter future.

I wish the Iowa Admin would obviously keep it named "Kinnick Stadium" but add "Fry Field" before we lose him. Turning around the program, the Tiger Hawk, the coaching tree, CF Hall of Fame - as time passes, you realize the incredible impact he had and the legacy produced!

It does open up a great question. Who has been better, Fry or Ferentz? Here is a comparison:

Big Ten titles (including division titles): Hayden 3; Kirk 3
Bowl games: Hayden: 14 in 20 years; Kirk: 14 in 18 years
Bowl wins: Each has 6
BCS Bowl games: Hayden 3 (3 rose); Kirk 3 (2 Orange and 1 rose)
Total wins: Hayden 141; Kirk 135
Overall win %: Hayden 61% Kirk at 59.9%

Still a slight edge to Fry, but Ferentz has time to surpass him.

I think it is important to look at the Iowa program twenty years before each coach took the reigns. It that regard not even close.
