He just mentioned who the final three candidates were and i missed it. i think he said it was fran, gregory and ???????? any help?

I missed the third, too. The other interesting thing he said was that they did have a list with names like Pearl and Dixon and Kruger on it, and the search firm did contact them but "they all wanted more than we pay Kirk Ferentz!"

I think Barta did a fine job with this process. I wouldn't have said that early yesterday, but that's because I didn't know enough about Fran yet.

Makes sense. These guys would be okay to stay where they are, but would love to be able to leverage their current employers.

Thank God, Barta didn't fall for it.

Wow I can't believe how open Bobby was, great interview. He admitted that he knew little about coach Caff coming into it, but in the end he was his recommendation. He also reiterated how enthused coach was to come to Iowa, and that he recruited himself to us basically.

What also surprised me was he said they actually did put feelers out to Pearl, Kruger, and Dixon. Most of us knew they were pipe dreams but good to know they at least explored the options, he mentioned Steve Forbes and the BJ option also. Sounds like they did a very thorough job, I'm officially a "Franatic"! Can't wait for next year.

A lot of these well known coaches are grossly overpaid and just use other openings as leverage to get more money from their schools

Well that's interesting, but not totally surprising given who these guys are. Good to know that Barta at least contacted them, and that they at least listened, even if their prices were too high. Sure beats getting a "thanks but no thanks".

One of the speakers was flat out asserting that Iowa needed to make whatever accommodations to remove the "older fans" in the high-price seats somewhere else & get the student body into TV camera range.

The other speaker countered that they pay a premium price for those seats and they're going to continue to get them. The first speaker re-iterated that having a central Student Section on TV is going to be way more invigorating than older folks who aren't going all crazy.

Very non-committal end of the conversation from there. I sure wish we could get students more involved somehow.
