In today's day and age, the coordinators are now as well known as the head coach, and some are getting paid like low level BCS head coaches or better.

This is a MAJOR hire.

Here are your candidates: Your vote is both who you would like AND who you think is likely. You have to combine votes.

Phil Parker
Ron Aiken
Darrell Wilson
Rick Kaz
Brock Spack
Mike Stoops

It will be Phil P. KF is not comfortable with new ideas/philosophies. I hope Hawk fans have their Blood Pressure prescriptions filled. Phil will attempt to continue Norm's D, but will do it worse, IMO.

I'm putting my money on Aiken. KF is familiar with him, and Aiken is familiar with KF and Iowa. The guy was a great coach too.

If it was Parker, I feel like they would have announced it today, no?

Well then whose your money on? OK4P?

Nobody, just going with the field as a gamble. But here is my thinking. Phil Parker? Okay, but no excitement. Any other names here. Well....? Aiken hasn't been recruiting. Stoops has been talked about so much, it would be a little anti-climactic. Wilson would lead to a huge Interweb meltdown, but actually would make some sense, because Woods could step right in (but, isn't going to happen.) Coach K runs players off;),

So, what would be most exciting? Something completely out of left field.

Yunno? Kind of when you have a 20 horse field and you know the winner is going to be the 5 horse, so you figure your bet is an exacta, but you can't get fired up about any of the others? So, you pick some long-shot with a fun name and an interesting history so your bet will pay something if it hits. If it doesn't, so what?

No you don't announce it today you give Norm all the attention he deserves.

Now here is the long term problem I see with this coaching staff. When Hayden resigned they wanted to fill the position with someone with an Iowa background.

Since virtually none of Kirk's staff have left to get additional experience outside of Iowa City it will make it next to impossible to hire his replacement with that same stipulation. On Kirk's staff who is the next Bobby Stoops, Dan MacCarney, Barry Alverez, Bret Belima(sp).

It would seem that when Kirk finally retires we will be forced to go outside the program becasuse none of his assistance has been groomed by gaining experience outside of his shadow.

Still don't agree with this. You really think naming a new DC is going to take away from Norm's victory lap? That is silly. Also, are you afraid of hurting Norm's feelings. I mean, seriously?

Yeah, that sounds exactly like KF.

Again, I don't think it is going to happen. Just think it is a funner bet. Believe me, I won't come on here and say I knew anything if it is someone new. It will be more like, OMG I can't believe this nag actually paid me?

Not like when I bet the 85 Bears and 86 Giants to win the SB before the season, or when I bet Hagler/Leonard to go the distance.

Kirk is a smart man, I would be willing to wager that he takes interviews just to appease the masses. Just like all of us- he has his list- man I wish I had his piece of paper he's always scribbling on!

You are absolutely correct about this. Plus, with university hiring policy you need to advertise position openings for a specific period. That being said, he could rearrange the staff and move someone into the DC spot and then advertise for another assistant.

I like Akien but he has been nothing but a D-line coach i am not sure he would be a good DC without experience
if Coach K were to go elsewhere I'd love to see him get hired
for my money i want Stoops

I'd love to see Stoops but that hire would be outside of Kirks cocoon and therefore take him out of the comfort zone. So let's play to punt promote Parker and watch the ship go down together.....

Seems like it would be very out of character for Kirk to hire a new DC from the outside. For this reason I think it's going to be Phil Parker.
