Guys I need your help with QBs and RBs

30 % of all carries or 30% of the carries by runningbacks?

I'm kinda where these guys (see below) are. More balance between Wadley and Butler. Not 50/50, more like 50/40 with 10% going to other players in the run-play category. I just think we're not using Butler enough.

I would like to see Butler get a little more work on the inside zone running scheme, at least while they are working on the blocking next game. Butler seems to be a little more suited to grinding out yards inside than Wadley. Also, Butler does really well on yards after contact. Wadley is better in open space, to state the obvious.

In the third quarter of the Iowa State game it looked like they were trying to get the inside zone running game going for Wadley. The blocking just wasn't there and the offense went silent.

I would like to see Butler more involved if for no other reason than to reduce Wadley's carries. He has 52 carries through 2 games. I'm not sure he's built to keep up that type of workload for an entire season.

I thought Butler looked good. He ran hard. The stats are a little misleading. I think he had a 10 yard run that got called back. Couple big lossses on blown blocks. His best run was after his catch for the 26 yards reception. I personally like him in short yardage situations.

I agree that the 28 to 10 carry workload could have been more like 24 to 14 but Wadley is a game breaker and when the hawks got behind in the second half he needs to get touches.

If the hawks hold ISU after going up 21-10 and then put up another score to go ahead 28-10 then you can use Butler more to hammer and ground out some yardage. I have seen Butler make good moves in the holes when he has a chance and it seems he has a little better acceleration and speed than Daniels had last year.

The formations with Butler as the single back and Wadley in the slot look great and give the hawks lots of options including jet sweep to Wadley.

But overall most runs laterally yesterday were a bust.

Wadley doesn't take many direct hits . . . That being said, 52 carries in 2 games may not work once IA opens B1G play.

Numbers always tell a lot...but they never tell you the whole story.

Nope. But my eyes tell me we are spreading it around to the receivers more (which I like) and I would like to see Butler and the fullbacks assume a larger role in the offense. In your opinion would that help or hurt?

Each week is a different situation.
How are each of the RBs feeling? Are they both healthy? Is one of them on fire, having a great game and needs to be fed the ball more?
What if one is 95% and the other is dinged up a bit, hurting some and maybe just 75% at best?
So to say Wadley should get half the reps and Butler 40% looks good on paper, but the human-element is removed when you leave it up to the math.
Buy, yeah I agree and want to see more Butler carries because he's really good and I REALLY want to preserve the health of our star play-maker AW.

I think this goes back to what BF said when he first got the job....he is going to take advantage of mismatches. This isn't going to be the Hawks of old where we just pound our head against a brick wall trying to run into 8 and 9 man boxes....just because.

This is where BFs NFL pedigree comes into play....especially coming from New England. You'd have a week where James White might get the ball 35 times a game and the next week Tom might put it up 50 times all out of shotgun....or one week where they're going to the TEs over and over and the next week it's all WRs.

I think the days of us playing a certain way because that's the way we've always played are over under BF....
