Gus Johnson's very positive comment about Iowa's Bball Program

Called the Iowa Bball program under Coach Mac "a very attractive program for highly skilled players." That won't hurt recruiting!

I thought that was Kenyon? Maybe not.

Either way, Kenyon was pimping Iowa the entire second half. Almost doing some on air recruiting for Iowa. I loved it.

That's the closest to a 'big time' feel surrounding an Iowa basketball game I have felt in a long time...and it was mostly because of Gus.

Gus doing Iowa games is as close as we will get to March Madness for a couple years. He might have even helped Lick sell it.

Fran seems like he knows college basketball. I could see kids wanting to play for him.

However, a team that has blown for a while is very, tough to sell. Especially when they play in the middle of Iowa at a school where the sports in second if not third most important, in a terrible atmosphere in a crappy building.

A terrible atmosphere and a crappy building? Were you around for Lute, Mr. Davis and Raveling? Hardly a fair assessment of our fans/building. Alfraud killed this program for the time being.

Cosign.

Guess you are having a bad day!!

Right. Three years of Lickliter had nothing to do with it.

I'm not going to argue. Carver is in bad shape. The decline has been visibly noticeable the last 5 or so years. It just looks like a tired old building.

Thank goodness they are renovating it.

Does the 2005-2006 season ring a bell?

I wouldn't say Alford killed the program. He gave the program a hard kick in the balls, but he didn't kill it.

Alford wounded the program, Lickliter stuck in the knife.

And Gus ain't stitching it back up. Come on, how much influence do you think a few throwaway statements by Gus Johnson on a bowl-week Wednesday night BTN broadcast will have on recruiting?

Whatever positive comments are made about Iowa basketball are long needed. How much of an impact will they have? I don't know, how much, but they definitely don't hurt anything and anything negative just continues to add to the perception that Iowa has been, not what it is now.

"WHO WOULDN'T WANNA GO TO DUKE AND PLAY FOR COACH K, BABY!?!? HE'S AWESOME, WITHA CAPITAL A!!!" ~Duke Vitale

Any good words from a popular on-air personality can open a door or get a foot in it...good pub never hurts.

Who knows. Maybe his comments are legit and he likes our future. You get someone like Gus talking us up during another broadcast that people are watching and maybe, just maybe, it will perk someones ears up.
