needs to calm down. too much yelling for me last night. and, i am not sure how to describe his voice other than "annoying". glad to get that off my chest.

"Bynam to the Bucketttttttt" "Sorrentine with the caaaattttcccchhhh" "HA HA" "Pure"

I love Gus.

Go Hawks!

I actually agree. He was a little too much last night. EVERY shot was like a buzzer beater, apparently. That's akin to a poster here putting EVERY word in all caps for a post that's like a novel. It's annoying, and it takes away from the game itself.

I like Gus as well! Last night Gus was more of a FAN at the end of the game than an announcer. You could defianetly tell Gus was excited, like he didn't want the game to end!

What do people have against excitable play-by-play guys? Seriously, if he annoys you, turn down the volume.

As for me, I'm turning down the sound on CBS and listening to Gary Reima call the UNI game. Ka-boom! Down goes Kansas!

If you dont like Gus then I have to question how much you really enjoy life. Gus is awesome and entertaining. Love him

I typically like him, it's just last night felt a little over the top. Big shots in the last minute or two, I'm all for going nuts. But a baseline jumper at the 4:47 mark in overtime (just made that up)? Not so much. I don't get that excited about shots in that kind of scenario, because I know there's loads of time left.

If I never hear the word kaboom again, I'll be a happy man.

Agreed 1000%. Too much talk from him....rambles on and on and on and on....STOP!!!!! Thinks a bit too much of his calls. Looks at himself as legendary play by play guy

Granted, Rima was caught up in the emotion of the moment, but as a play-by-play guy, you have to think of how you can dramatically convey your thoughts without "stealing" lines from others.

Down goes Kansas? Do you believe in Dreams?

"Down goes Frazier" and "Do you believe in Miracles" are arguably two of the most iconic phrases in all of sports broadcasting.

I know he was caught up in the emotion of the moment and is overall a good play-by-play guy, but he needed to be ready with his own "line."

Go Hawks!

They've continued to play the end of that game on 1600 in Cedar Rapids for the last several days...I'm curious how many other historical calls he's going to rob if UNI manages to beat Michigan State.

If I recall correctly, he paraphrased:

1. Do you believe in miracles? Yes!
2. Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!
3. Cinderella is going to the sweet 16! (stretch)

It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't already state that he loved the team, but then he started picking them ("them" being historical calls from the past) off 1 by 1. Way overkill...

On the other hand...I love Gus Johnson. The fact that he can get that entrenched in a game from not only an announcing aspect, but from a fan aspect is great IMO. He doesn't just do it for college either...I think he does some NBA games as well, and is just as excitable. And if you can get excited for a regular season NBA game, you're a better man than me...

**Edit - Dude, HWK4LYF, get outta my head! ::spooky::

Would you prefer the other end of the spectrum, Joe Buck? Imagine him making the play calls last night. "With time running down it's Crawford from near mid court....and it falls.(yawns) Looks like we are stuck here for another 5 minutes.."
