The emotion around that phantom call was really setup earlier by the infamous call at the end of the last game in the Fieldhouse. Triple-OT vs. Minnesota, Mark Gannon called for a foul on a 40-foot prayer by Darryl Mitchell.
Somewhere, there are even better shots showing clearly that Gannon didn't foul. Anyway, the season was already slipping away at the hands of officials, and Jim Bain lit the powderkeg a week later at Purdue.
