Greatest/favorite sporting event of the past year?

IMHO, the beginning of football season "resets" the sports calendar. Sure, there's baseball that carries over from one year to the next in that case, but virtually every other major team sport is either in its off-season or getting started right about now (and most individual sports go year-round).

So the question is simple, what was your favorite single sporting event of this past sports year?

After considering, game 6 of the World Series last year (St. Louis' next innings win over Texas) is probably tops for me. If any other team had won that game, it would be one of the great baseball games of all time in my mind.

Iowa bb making the NIT. I was so stunned when I heard it, then the crowd that we were able to amass at the game given the suddenness of the announcement was just amazing.

Game 6 was indeed a classic, but for me it was still game 7 when the Cards took home the title.

illannoy going down in flames in every marquee sport and dumping their two schithead coaches

My sons 4th grade youth baseball tournament championship.

Wow! My sentiments exactly. Nothing can top that. We cut our 2 week vacation 4 days short for a similar thing when our kid was in the finals of a tournament when he was in 5th grade. The game that sent them into the finals was probably the only time in my life I ever wanted the other team to win. First time I've ever admitted that. PS: They won and our kid was named MVP of the tournament. He's 44 now & I hope he's not monitering HN at the moment.

1. Olympics were great, but I didn't watch the games in person.
2. The sweep of the Wisky Badgers in basketball was sweet, as I live in Madison.
3. The Iowa v Michigan football game was really fun to watch (I was really hoarse the next day).
4. Beating NW in football was pretty sweet.

Even as a Cubs fan, Game 6 takes the cake. That's the best baseball game I've ever seen, and the circumstances (Freese, the hometown kid, makes a critical mistake and then bounces back to force extras, and then wins the game on a walk off dinger) may make it tough to ever top.

This ties sweeping Wisky in Bball. I hate Wisconsin more than any other team in any sport and missing them in football makes those hoops victories even sweeter.
