What's weird is no one ever accused Jok of not being a true shooting guard because he can't defend other shooting guards.
You already answered this in a previous thread. You know why.

Jordan Bohannon shoots at least a couple threes a game off the dribble. Maybe it's you who doesn't watch Iowa games.
Ask yourself this. If his weaknesses are he lacks lateral quickness to defend and also to get by people what does putting him at Shooting Guard do to change that?
If you did watch the game last night there was an interesting discussion by the announcers. They said Fran raves about JBo's ability to run the team. That may be where he was really overlooked in this process. "Run the team." Sounds like a PG to me.
JBo has made the argument for himself. The coaches, the pundits, our coach, and the stats agree. JBo is a good POINT GUARD.
If you want to agree with 5656, be my guest. Just know he's been mostly wrong about everything.
I've seen people ask how JB moving to the 2 will mask his weaknesses quite a bit on here but I've never seen anyone respond to it. If he moves to the 2, it won't change his weaknesses one bit, but it will change his strengths for the worse.
And vice-versa.
Huge difference in defending a shooting guard and a point guard. His weakness very well could become a strength if he was asked to guard the opposing teams shooting guard.
If that's the case, he can still guard the shooting guard on defense and play point guard on offense. There is no rule saying if you're a 1 you have to guard their 1.
Yes he shoots 3s off the dribble but very rarely does he dribble the ball down and chuck it up.
Yes I heard what the announcers said, Frans opinions of JB running a team is probably what will keep him at the PG. I don't see anybody coming in that can knock JB out of the PG spot for next year unless we see CW more at the point.
edit - oops, I missed the 5656 knock...I get what you are doing and all and it really doesn't bother me but there is a huge difference between what 5656 said about JB and what I am saying. Do you see it or does it need to be explained to you?
I don't see it. As I said the original "JBo is a shooting guard being asked to play PG" troll came from 5656 during PTL.
So while you may not be the only one who thought this way before this year. (I'm sure many college scouts thought the same). JBo has proven to be a good passer, ball handler, and in turn a good Point Guard.
5656 trashed on JB overall, called him a volume scorer and not a good shooter. I've been very complimentary of JB, I think he's one hell of a basketball player but I feel he is better suited as a 2.
If that's the case, he can still guard the shooting guard on defense and play point guard on offense. There is no rule saying if you're a 1 you have to guard their 1.
Next year we will be in even better shape because we won't have two guys who can't guard perimeter players playing 30 MPG.
But it doesn't stop at defense, granted perimeter defense the most glaring weakness of the team, but it also affects the team on offense. JB struggles to get away from a quick point guard which becomes difficult in late game situations where Iowa is protecting a lead or if Iowa is needing a dribble drive to the basket when they are behind.
He can feed the post in late game situations like Indiana where Cook got murdered and they didn't call it. Or he can do the pull up quick release 3 like he did at the end of the shot clock against Maryland. I agree that those aren't perfect, but other than that he isn't just a good offensive point guard, he's a great one. The thing we need most is a shooting guard who can do what you said and a rim protector who can help on defense. If we get those 2 things, we fix his limitations without losing his elite passing, shooting, and overall offensive leading.
The other way to look at it is if a player can get into the lane at will, play great defense, and shoot and pass like Bohannon, he would be an All American. So your argument is that either we need an All American, or that you would rather exchange great shooting and passing for great defense and great penetrating skills (lol I said great penetrating skills). The first option is unrealistic and the second option is 6 in one, half dozen in the other.
No, I wouldn't expect a PG to be as good as Bohannon offensively. For the PG position I put a higher priority on ballhandling, quickness, and good man to man defense. They at least need to be a threat to score on the perimeter.
Or, they just need to be black.
