We all know Iowa should have a pretty good defense this year. I think after Saturday against Iowa State, we will really know how nasty of a D Iowa will have this year or if it can be exploited at the LB position.
Iowa State brings in a formidable offense and will test Iowa both in the air with taller receivers and throwing downfield. In addition, Iowa will be tested tackling David Montgomery who may be the best back in the nation at breaking tackles. Many of his yards come from after contact. So, Iowa will be tested both in the air and on the ground with a pretty good RB.
If Iowa's defense is pretty nasty and does a pretty good job against Iowa State on Saturday, this will bode well for the rest of the season, I believe. Iowa's best seasons are when they have a great defense. The way KF coaches games along with his philosophy, it's imperative his team have a stout defense. Iowa has done best when they've had a great d-line who can control the running game and get pressure on the QB, so that the back end of the defense can cover.
