Great Alaska Shootout

Glad to see we are correcting that non-con SOS problem we had.

To win the tournament, at least using this years final RPI, the Hawks would likely have to beat 2 top 100 teams and the lowest RPI team there is at 234. Given all of the 250-300+ RPI teams on this year's non-conference I'd say that's a step up.

I would like to play Harvard and Indiana State. They should win their respective conferences and be in the top 100 RPI. I don't know enough about the others to pick a 3rd opponent.

Their is a pretty good Wichita St team that is bringing back a lot of talent from a final four team in Indiana St's conference. I wouldn't go crowning their *** yet.

I used the word "should" for a reason...still think they are the clear favorite. Armstead (10.7) was the mismatch in so many of their games this year and he's gone. Williams (7.4), Orukpe (2.6) and Hall (12.5) are also gone. That's 4 guys from the rotation, 48% of their points and 3 of their top 5 scorers. I think all of these guys are also about 25 years old.

Indiana State did not have a senior. Creighton is gone. I really like Indiana State in the Valley next year.

Perhaps you shouldn't comment on these things. In many ways, this is how a team should schedule in the non-conference- outside of Pepperdine and maybe TCU.

As long as Iowa gets Anchorage first, this should be a nice little tournament to get some wins, a couple of top 150 wins, and avoid terrible teams.

Don't you know that he officiated a substate basketball game!?

can't say I have ever seen "Rosannes' Vag" and "an icepick top my balls" used in the same paragraph before. Well played.

I'm calling BS on the icepick part.

Let's set up a livestream and I want to see someone follow throw on this with him...esp. since he won't be going to Alaska.

Since this tournament is played on a neutral court we do not want Iowa playing Anchorage since a win over them does not count towards their RPI win percentage.

I was half right 86-87 was correct, little bit off on the second time, it was '95. Should have remembered Iowa being worked by Duke in a tournament format.

I think we played North Carolina State in one of the games, 86-87, and I remember BJ trapped on the baseline with nowhere to go and no help. He jumped up, turned around in midair and dribbled down the court. I knew then that we had a star in the making along with the others, Marble, Horton, Gamble, Lohaus......

I do believe we won the tounament and eventually were rated number one for a while that season.....

The great Alaska shoot out took a big nose dive when they couldn't come to an agreement with espn on tv coverage a few years back. CBS sports net has now picked up some of the games so it has decent coverage and is slowly making its way back to a respectable tournament. It's doubtful it will ever be what it once was though. But this would be a very nice tourney win for Iowa. Really there is no reason Iowa should not win this.

This is a tournament Iowa really needs to win next season, none of the teams in this tournament will be any more tougher than what they just faced in the NIT. Three wins on a neutral court against a couple of potential top 100 RPI teams will go a long ways at the end of the season. Hopefully they avoid playing the host as Anchorage is DII and a win against them does not count towards the RPI.

It would actually help Iowa's RPI at the end of the year if they played the DII school instead of TCU.

Just saw a tweet from Iowa Basketball selling packages to fans to attend the Great Alaska Shootout next December. What would make anybody want to go to Alaska that time of year? You probably only get 4-5 hours of daylight each day and it's colder than Rosanne's vag. I would rather take an icepick top my balls.

Good for crab fishing tho.
