Grass is not always greener column....

This article is dead on with what I feel. I don't post here anymore because i don't feel like there's room for this opinion. Glad the article got posted. Plenty of people still hope Kirk has a good year this year. They just are less vocal.

I don't know what makes Kirk Ferentz spin, but all the coaches in the BIG do. They all know exactly how to beat him. That is his problem and if he keeps doing the same old things his winning % will be the same old thing.

Gone are the days of Hayden Fry where he would take on a Miami or a UCLA or a Nebraska or an Oregon. He's totally happy with Illinois State, Iowa State and some irrelevant program out east like Syracuse or Pitt. That's part of the problem. Looking at all the CFB shows Neb/BYU, Ohio State/VaTech, Wisconsin/Alabama, c'mon we aren't even trying to be relevant. Kirk wants his cupcakes because its the only way he can win 6 and go bowling. I am continually embarrassed by our schedule. Our biggest game is against a middling Nebraska team the last game of the year. That's pathetic.

Good god, anybody can get their article published these days. Aside from some false premises in the content, the writing is terrible. Poor grammar, mixed mephors, misspelled words, etc.

Where did you find this guy, Jon?

Maybe Jon axed him to make words. You aint much for words neither. Least my teacher learned me. You aint right.

You cherry pick a couple of examples....have you actually looked at the schedules of the Power 5 conference teams? The games you list are the exception, not the rule. Iowa's out of conference schedule is not that much different than most other Power 5 teams. Games are often scheduled many years in advance...so you can't predict if the quality team you scheduled in 2010 will still be a quality team in 2016. Most Iowa fans thought scheduling Pitt was a good idea at the time.

As for conference games....Iowa has NO control over those.

If you are "embarrassed" by Iowa's schedule....take a look at some of the SEC's OOC games.

or maybe try taking off these once in a while ...

That's not even it. It's just become the same old rhetoric over and over again, only it seems to get worse by the day. Everyone on this site knows that the product on the field hasn't been what we'd hoped for but to pile on KF by saying he's a bad guy and that he's turned this into the Lickliter era of football is asinine. If you want to tie it to an era of basketball, I think the obvious correlation would be the end of the Davis era. He reached great heights early in his tenure at the school, which gave fans a taste of what they could have. Of course, years later the shine had worn off and fans got restless with 'mediocre' play and were ready to move on. The Lickliter era could very well be in front of us yet.

I'm not saying that I don't think we need to replace him if this season doesn't exceed expectations. I just think too many people on here are blinded by their hatred of the product that they are trying to project that onto KF himself. The fact of the matter is he runs a clean program, he donates millions of dollars to the children's hospital (and other charities) and he is well respected amongst his peers (college and NFL). The least we could do is show him a little more respect here, even if we aren't satisfied with his performance.

My only comments for now are below.

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side. Don't think I trust Barta to find out though.

However, what we have is an unknown and a known at this time.

First the unknown: As mentioned above, we have no idea at this time if the grass is greener on the other side.

Now for the known: The grass that is Iowa Football is not very green on this side.

What's the old saying... "Those that don't know history are destined to repeat it." Edmund Burke.

I dislike the recent physicality-lacking, unimaginative and ultra-conservative 7-5 seasons as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to call for the coach to be replaced. I made that mistake in the 1990s. I try to learn from my mistakes.

Was this thing a massive troll job?

Saying Kirk still gets looks from the nfl? As a head coach?

That's so far off base it's got to be a joke.

You're right, what a mistake replacing Lickliter turned out to be.

And so the question becomes, are we willing to take some risk and make a change? I am. If kfootball doesn't deliver a West title this season, I can't see it happening the next.

I don't necessarily disagree with what the article was about in spirit. Look at traditional powerhouses like Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, even Florida and Notre Dame. Those schools have gone through massive changes and thrown lots of dollars at coaches and facilities and still haven't had much recent success either.

I'm as pessimistic as it gets, but even I'm sick of all the whining and moaning on all the forums about the team, the coaches and the recruiting. Its like the majority of fans want this team to fail before the season even begins. The seasons about to start...time to get on board, and if Iowa loses to Illinois State or Iowa State, Ill bring the matches to help torch this b*tch to the ground
Maybe some

Maybe some of the moaning and groaning goes somewhat over the top, but criticism of Iowa's recruiting is thoroughly justified. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. The lack of talent on these past couple of teams is just plain shocking. The lack of athleticism was COMPLETELY exposed in last year's thrashing by Tennessee. To me, it's just a lack of effort on the coaches part and a further reflection of how stale this program has become...
