Grant Gambrall has spent his first two seasons in Iowa City on the bench backing up 3x All-American Phil Keddy. That didn’t stop Grant from winning 22 matches during the 2009-10 campaign. Gambrall won two open tournaments, (Harold Nichols and Wisconsin Open) in addition to placing sixth at the prestigious Midlands Championships. The highlight of the Midlands for Grant was a 14-5 major decision over returning All-American Josh Patterson of Binghamton. In the finals of the Harold Nichols Open, Gambrall defeated the rival Iowa State Cyclones starting 184lber Jerome Ward 6-2. He will have to be a bit more consistant as the starter, judging by his losses to non-DI wrestlers in the Kaufman-Brand and Grand View Opens. Grant Gambrall starts the 2010-11 season ranked #9 by D1CW.
