Grant Brix to Nebraska

Not sure what's true and what's not but one thing I'd heard was that Iowa really wasn't high on the kid... That could be BS and Iowa offered and tried but it's just something I'd seen floated out there.

Either way we've lost recruits to them before. Oh well.

We offered early. But he is a lot closer to Lincoln, FWIW

We were very interested initially. Brix and his family reportedly crossed off Iowa early in the process. No one has really divulged why.

I can see him not going to Iowa because their offense and OL coach completely suck, but to go to another offensive disaster that is Nebraska. I don't get it. But so be it.

I saw Grant Brix play twice this year in person. Couple of things I will say about him and what I know about the process has been on this side of the state. I am not an expert on Oline, nor am I even a novice on what it takes to be a great Olineman at the college level. I also don't know how you would project growth and what you can see for this player in the future based on his frame. I know that he was a wrestler and Iowa typically LOVES that on their lines of scrimmage.

He was a 4 star player, he had a Bama offer and Iowa was in on him relatively early (offered in October of 22) but they quickly backed off.

He played at the lowest level of ball you can in the state of Iowa. Logan is a very small school and town. Class A. For comparison, everyone talks about what a small school Cooper Dejean came from, and they are 2A, so much larger than where Brix played. I saw almost every team that Logan played this year. My nephew plays at Tri-Center. To say that football is a challenge at that level would be quite the understatement. Most of the teams that Logan played, don't or can't throw the football. Like at all. They only run. Sure, some passes to keep the D's honest and you might find 1 or 2 QB's along the way that can sling it, but those were not very common on this side of state in class A. Most of these schools only go for 2 because they don't really have the capibility of kicking FG's. The reffing at this level is also atrocious. I realize I am not telling you guys anything you don't know as we're all familiar with small town ball, but it truely is SMALL ball at schools like Logan Magnolia, Tri-Center, West Monona etc.

So, there's that. I watched Tri Center play Logan earlier this year and watch Brix get eaten alive by a 5'6" 185 lb little nose tackle they called "Pickle". Pickle was a fine player, but I don't think he's even making the depth chart at a 1A school. I watched "Pickle" and my nephew blow up Brix over and over and over in that game. Now, Tri-Center lost the game in a close one, but I was like "no way does this kid have a Bama offer"

I know footwork can be taugh and development can be taught, but I don't think Logan threw the ball in that game so not sure you can get a read on where his development will go in a situation like that. It sucks to lose out on a highly regarded and rated recruit, but something doesn't pass the smell test here with this kid. I'm kind of glad he went to Nebraska.

Nailed it. Seriously, after growing up and competing at the 1A level I can understand why Div 1 coaches might be better offering a 2 deep player at a 5A school than taking a chance on a 1A or 2A player, unless that kid is so athletically gifted and with size. The size and depth at 5A schools is so different. I'm glad our HS team (5A) doesn't just run all the time. They actually had the QB with the most pass yards this year. They had great balance on offense and was more fun to watch than watching Iowa.

In addition, the line play is so advanced. You can tell when the tackle knows to go get the LB at the 2nd level on certain plays or the footwork like dropping a foot angling to the sideline to block, or blocking a certain way to create a passing lane for the QB, executed screen plays with the lineman 25 yrds downfield blocking, etc. It's just different and kind of like watching college ball lite.
