Graduate Transfer Offensive Lineman

Wait, what, isnt 40 games at least 4 seasons of eligibility??? Hasnt he used up his eligible time unless he started 36 games in 3 years and only 4 games last year to still have a year left.

How does that work out Rob?

He started for three years without a redshirt. He started the first four games of '19 before suffering a season-ending injury, meaning he could take a redshirt. He graduated and now has a year of eligibility.

Kudos to the staff for getting this done. This is such a big pickup for our offensive line both literally and figuratively. Also great to see he’s already enrolled for the spring semester which means he will get to go through spring ball, which isn’t always the case for these grad transfers.

These situations are pretty rare and I’m sure the competition was stiff. Feel much better about our offensive line group going into next year.

Yeah, that is the only way it could work out so the new 4 game rule opens up some other avenues for playing time.

Stealthy. I went back and looked at his press conference highlights Rob posted. A deft sidestepped when asked about the transfer portal at his press conference.

Since I know nothing about Indiana's offense, are they a zone blocking team, or man on man straight ahead style? If not zone blocking, I would think it would be hard to teach that in one year, SO, is it signal that Iowa will be moving more and more away from zone blocking in 2020?

Cronk sounds like the name of an O lineman, doesn't it?

Well, let's ponder why he might want to come to Iowa?
- Might our strength and conditoining program ensure his ankle heals properly and he's ready for the season?
- Do we have a history of putting O linemen into the NFL?

When grad transfers come in like this is there any resentment or jealousy from the guys that might get beat out?

Indiana must have found two younger tackles they liked and wanted to move Cronk inside to guard.

As far as resentment from guys that get beat out that’s really the nature of competition. In this case Jack Plumb really hasn’t been able to put on the weight to be a legit option at tackle. Kallenberger will likely stay inside at guard.

Always that chance, which is why I used "appears" in my story. Also, it's being reported nationally that it's the kid from Indiana.

I meant it as a joke because of the unusual name. Were you the "breaker" of this one?

Stupid name-related aside: Jeff Wettach was just inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a stud athlete (all-conference in football and T&F), but he was a 6' 3" string-bean who looked like he would blow over in a stiff breeze. Supposedly then coach Bob Naslund (hall of fame coach, and an all-world quote) exclaimed upon first seeing Wettach on campus: "Just great, apparently there are 2 Jeff Wettach's from Mt. Pleasant, and we got the other one!"
