Gotta lay it out there

Thanks....
Now this today from Purdue coach:"But we're moving forward, and we're looking forward to playing a good Iowa opponent, and after studying these guys the last 48 hours, they're a very good football team, especially their offensive and defensive lines are very good. They're simplistic in structure. You know where you're going to line up offensively and defensively. You're going to run zone inside and outside on offense, and defensively you're going to sit in their four man front and play cover‑six for 1st and 2nd down, play cover one on 3rd down, so it's going to be a good opponent for us on Saturday, and I think it'll be a great football game."

ENOUGH SAID
HAHAHA Right on cue right?

Just as Jon intended...the masses will pick up on the PU coach's comments to fire their fury....guess maybe it drives traffic to the site. I know fans are frustrated, but this just in....there are no magic formulas to winning football...but maybe Hazell's system is so much better that Iowa can steal him from PU?

You know I knew I would take flack for starting this but...genuinely frustrated with this program. Vanilla is ok...but man it just is not working anymore.

So were coaches dumb in the past and some new wave of incredibly smart people now coach football or is running a scheme depend on execution?

This can be said a about a lot of teams. I am guessing iowa could say same thing about purdue or wisky. Outside of a handful of teams noone does something extremely innovative. If they did it is copied in a year or two.

The staff has lost the ability to recruit. Or the offence we run is so vanilla that the good players don't wanna any part of it.

Outoftown - I agree with you 100%!!! I've thought for years that KF gets a bigger charge AND ego boost out of going 9-3 coaching up marginal talent, than he does going after the type of athletes that might actually take you to the level of Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State. If he did that and won big, he couldn't take as much credit for the results....and he couldn't cry after beating the likes of Penn State because it would have been expected.

I knew what Wisky was gonna do. Inside run, jet sweep, inside run, jet sweep, play action.
If you watched that game we stuffed the jet sweep early and were keying on their motion...they changed and did not run that play again...when is the last time you saw Iowa do something like this???

Coaches were not dumb but guys like Tom Osborne, Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes could do what Iowa did because they simply had better athletes and face it times were different. We are not talented enough to simply say here we are we do these very simple things and we can beat you. We simply cannot adjust on the fly at all.

This is 100% accurate. If you are evenly matched or you have better talent, it's all about execution and limiting mistakes. If you are out-matched in talent, you need to either out-coach, out-scheme or take higher risks to win.
Our problem is all of the above. We don't have superior talent. We can't seem to out-coach anyone. Our scheme is simple and we take no risks.
Here is where I think it's interesting. A coach can take several risks in their approach to playing Iowa because KF doesn't seem to see them coming. He can't fathom anything outside of the down/distance/field position card, so he is caught completely by surprise when someone else does it to him.

You realize that wisky usually runs that play two to three times a game right (the actual sweep)

They are not going to feed it constantly unless the d has no clue how to defend it. By the way gordon took a sweep hand off in 4th quarter and gained 6 or 7. Every team has their tendencies and every fanbase moans about the playcall. Some just over generalize and look for negatives more than others.

Is iowa the most creative-no. is wisky the most creative - no. Are any big ten - no.

The lack of talent and execution is the biggest issue here. Losing 80% of a recruiting class is gonna kill any program that doesn't oversign.
