Gotta appreciate Coach Lick's Classy Attitude

"Hey Lick, what did you think of your time at Iowa?"

If someone paid you 6 million for producing the 3 worst seasons in the program's history, would you complain about it?

I do not hate the guy,but he has secured his financial future in 3 short years...do lottery winners ***** about having to go to the store to buy that winning ticket?

After the job he did at Iowa I wouldn't want to look back at it either. You have to do something to earn respect which he didn't do. Getting booted out the door was exactly what he deserved.

As it turns out both the Alford and lick hires turned out to be wrong. It is time to quit blaming them and turn the negative energy into positive by supporting the new coaching staff. Not all the blame is on the past coaches, the University sat idle and let the mens program slip behind the top teams in the conference. Hopefully they have learned their lesson and are taking the right steps to ensure the future is brighter. Having a new practice facility will help but I watched the MSU-Ill. game and would love to see our students surround the court like the Breslin Center, what a home court advantage, what a recruiting advantage!

Lickliter was a breath of fresh air after suffering through Alford's pig-headed ego for too many years. Glad to see Todd taking the high road on this one. He wasn't the right fit for Iowa, end of story. Hopefully with Fran, Iowa is finally going to be able to wrestle itself out of the karmic death spiral Bowlsby sent the program on back in the day.

Breath of fresh air? Wow. The three years before Lick came to Iowa, the Hawks won 32 games vs Big Ten teams.
The three years of lick the Hawks won 15 games vs Big Ten teams.
I do not give a crap about personality in my coach,I want to win games vs Big Ten teams.
That fresh air you cite, was the stench of losing.

I agree that he wasn't the right fit at Iowa. It would be hard to find anyone that would disagree with that. If he wanted to take the high road he should have realized he was in over his head and left on his own.

Iowa's downfall began with Alford, not Lickliter, dude. Alford routinely threw his own players under the bus. Alford also didn't take the high-road once he left town but instead threw mud at the program. You may not care about Alford's personality, but he was the most loathed coach in modern Iowa history - and failed to deliver on the hype he preached.

Im sure everyone here would give up their salary of 1,000,000 dollars a year if they werent doing as well as people want.

Yeah, he should have done the honorable thing and quit when things got hard. That would have helped him get another job!

The only thing I care about is the fact that we now do have the right guy. I have stricken the era between Davis and Fran from my mind. It never happened.

Sorry, but every coach is critical of players performance. Lick did it,SA did it, Fran does it. You think Fran is stroking the players at those timeouts when the veins are bulging in his neck? Fans are so fricking sensitive about SA making factual observations of performance but do not percieve that Fran is getting after them at timeouts? Give me a break. I have no problem with coaches critiquing the players performances...and lick did it also.

From what I read, SA's ''mudslinging'' was simply pointing out that Bowlsby promised a practice facility when SA was hired in 1999 and it did not happen by the time he left in 2007...and nothing was even in the plans at that point either.
If that is mudslinging, then I am fine with it,because maybe it lit a fire under the Iowa administrations arse to get it done. Fran thanks SA for his comments, trust me.

Face it, you hated SA,and so did other fans, and lost all objectivity in discussing his performance. It was disapointing but Lick broke all the records for losing, period. Fresh air? Give me a break. I don't watch Iowa bb games to see the guy in the suit on the sidelines perform, I watch to see the players on the court perform. In sports, there is winning and misery. More misery under Lick than any coach in Iowa bb history. Just the facts.

Fran most definitely gets on them at times during timeouts and I think it is great. He is also very positive about them after the game. It is a tough love which I think the players respect and buy in to!

Fran has not stood up in a press conference and blamed his players the way SA did. You are correct, every good coach gets on his players (well, John Wooden aside). But I don't remember a coach at Iowa doing it in the manner SA did. That's why a lot of people had a problem with Alford. You really did not see him accepting any blame, it was always someone else's fault. That, and he didn't exactly leave the program stocked with all B10 performers when he left, either.
