Good CFN article on Sash

Sash had dreams of playing two sports in IC? You want to put some butts in the seats at CHA, they should of put him in instead of Lil Lick.

If Sash has 95 tackles this year are linebackers are not doing there job.

First off, he had 85 tackles this year, not 95. And yeah, he has a few more tackles than I'd prefer. However, I think that has more to do with the fact that we had 2 guys in their first year starting at DT. That simply means that there were a few games where our opposition had a bit too much success getting a blocker on our LB. Of course, who really is going to complain about our DL? I'm not going to!

Anyhow, while Sash had a few more tackles than I'd prefer ... it is VERY NORMAL for Iowa to have our #3 tackler on the team be a safety. In fact, when our D is at its best ... that is simply par for the course. Reciprocally, when we're not getting good production at the safety spot ... then usually that is a sign that our D is exploitable at the safety spot. You might note that while our D was pretty darn good in 2007 ... safety was a bit of a weakness then. While I don't like to berate individual Hawks ... it's a true statement to say that Dalton was mediocre at best.

One area I'd take issue with the article is that Sash has MUCH better athleticism than they're giving him credit for. I suspect that there might be a little bit of discrimination going on by the writer there in his comments about Sash's athleticism. The comments were painting the standard broad strokes ... concerning Sash making up for his "lack" of athleticism by playing smart. Typical ... very typical.

What was almost contradictory is that they remarked that Sash still has adequate enough speed to play catch-up. I'm sorry but you can't really do that if you're lacking in athleticism. Does anybody remember the play where Sash got burned by the MSU's Cunningham in 2008 (because he presumably bit on the play action) ... and he ran down the WR and pushed the guy out-of-bounds. That was an instance of not only taking a good angle ... but also putting it in another gear speed-wise.

Don't get me wrong, I doubt that Sash will put up a sub 4.4 40 time like I believe Mays did recently at the combine. However, I do believe that Sash will be capable of putting up a sub 4.5 time. We'll see though ....

Also, Sash is the closest thing we've seen to Bob Sanders since Bob left. Sash isn't racking up all those tackles 15 yards downfield. He gets quite a lot up around the line of scrimmage and in the backfield just because of his tremendous instincts. So I wouldn't be the least bit concerned if he had 95 next fall. He's a ballhawk, people. He doesn't wait for the ball to come to him, he goes and finds it.
