Good article regarding Brands and the upcoming season

He has some good things to say in this article and he talks more about the thought that they may not do wrestle offs this year but use the early season competitions instead...

The article mentions that Brands "welcomes the curiosity" the fans have concerning the upcoming season. Despite this, there hasn't been much overt/covert info from the media or the boards we fans rely upon for the latest information. Additionally, it's mentioned that the first 3 dual meets in addition to the open meets will be utilized to determine starters. This leads me to believe we won't know much until January 2011...which will be very frustrating from a fan's perspective. Any chance Brands & company will release more details (I keep reading insiders post they don't feel comfortable sharing) or do we have to live with the disappointment until January?

I'm not a wrestling guy, but a similar sport in terms of approach and individual vs team aspects is Tennis. Having played Tennis in college I knew players that could beat anybody else on the team they went up against, but not do as well in actual competition as you would expect. I also have experienced the opposite. In other words, I like Brands approach of using external competition to determine his lineup.

It's true that some of us haven't put everything up on the net but that is just part of it. I Sure it would be nice to just got on here and say everything we hear but that isn't going to happen and the staff doesn't want that to happen either. Some things are just better left off the boards.

As far as questions on the lineup I really don't think that there are too many questions to be answered. If everybody is healthy I think that the lineup is pretty straight forward right now. What weights are you really questioning?

I'd be pretty surprised if it deviated much from the following.

McD
Moore
Ballweg
Carew
St John
Jannsen
Lofthouse
Gambrall
Lofthouse
Rasing

I like to hear that FF. I really didnt have a whole lot of ?'s coming in. I dont think Brands and Co. are really being that undercover about anything. They have 9 starters to replace and lets face it no one knows how these guys will respond to the challange. They just have to do the best they can do to prepare these great young men for whats ahead.

That said I look forword to these 9 new guys and "the vet" Mr. Steel coming through big this year! Go Hawks!

I didn't think there were many questions either...but pulling out of nat'l duals, the possibility of no wrestle offs, and Brands' comments about the lineup being uncertain until January leads me to believe there's more behind the scenes. I'm mostly just curious and anxious for the season to start, as well as to find out for certain what weights the Hawk wrestlers will settle into (is Kerr really going 174, will E. Lofthouse cut to 165, will Matt Ballweg challenge for 149, etc?).

I would expect E Lofthouse to stay at 174 at this point. There is a chance he could certify at 165 but he has said that he couldn't hold the weight all year. I think that he's the guy at whatever weight he goes and I think he is much more comfortable at 74.

Kerr is going 174 for right now but I wouldn't be surprised to see him back down to 165 at some point in the year, especially if AJ struggles there.

Matt Ballweg will be Derek St John's backup at 157. I'm not sure that he can still make 149 and even if he does I don't think he beats Carew. Also, don't believe everything you read on the internet as far as true freshman, etc... I know that there has been a lot of hype building around Michael Kelly but it's just that at this point in his career. There is always at least 1 guy that people grab onto and over hype. Last year it was Ramos and this year it appears that Kelly might be that guy. Hopefully he'll have a great career at some point but I HIGHLY doubt that it will be this year. He isn't even the best freshman in the room in that weight room let alone good enough to take the spot right now...

Does anyone know when we can start to see our season tickets come in the mail.? This is my first year as a season ticket holder and was just wonderings.
