Going to Kinnick with little expectations

The first two games of the year the offense looked solid but they played against two pretty bad defenses. The hawk run defense looked iffy against Miami of O but it would be ok.

The two losses took a lot of expectations away from me. Two wins on the road by 14-7 made the defense look improved but not sure about the offense even after last week against a bad purdue Dee with 3 starters out.

So after 12-0 last year which came out of nowhere I am now getting ready to head to Kinnick tomorrow with low expectations. Actually my expectations are to hope to see a big upset as I think there is a big difference between Wisky and Iowa.

The weather is supposed to be nice, the leaf colors are great, and it would be just great to see the hawks make some big even unexpected plays to win even by a point.

Games agaisnt Wisky and Minny, etc sure bring back some great memories with friends, family, my kids at the games.

Who else feels the same way?

I'm not sure how to feel about this game in terms of expectations, outside of knowing that Iowa's offense will be frustrating to watch and not up to par with what you see at other Power 5 schools.

For me its all about the defense. When they are playing physical and leaving it all out there, I really enjoy watching Iowa. For most (and understandingly so) fans, the Minnesota game wasn't much to see. But I had a great time watching it because it was easy to see the defense came to play. They played hard and physical and were flying to the ball. They dominated a team that scored 24 with its backup QB at Maryland last week. Plus I was there and drinking some good Summit beer.

Iowa can win. But it won't be easy. We need CJ to be back to his old form and the defense to be rude and aggressive. This is a good, "freshman" quarterback. Keep pressure on him, play his receivers tight and make him make bad decisions.

I also have low expectations. In fact, I am going with the assumption they will lose and just want to enjoy the game and spending time with my brother.

And should the Hawks win.....it will be like an unexpected surprise.

I definitely don't expect Iowa to win, but I really hope the offense doesn't make me want to pull my hair out.

I would love to see some pressure on their QB but that's not how Iowa plays.

I go to Kinnick today with expectation of an Iowa win. Won't be easy, will be tense, but in the end Hawks prevail with tough D, and improved offensive play, esp considering this will be best D we've faced yet. Combo of gelling team, gelling coaching staff, CJ's reawakening JIT, and some Kinnick magic.............

Not going to the game, but I have the same sorta thought process.

I just don't see how Iowa is going to be able to move the ball against this defense. We shall see. But I'm very nervous about this one.

This thread really should be pinned, because it explains the only way to enjoy the Hawkeye football "experience" for the next 10 years- have low expectations.

Expect to see Iowa field a team with a couple stars, a bunch of average players, and several below average players.

Expect the same approach / gameplan every game.

Expect to be put to sleep by the "offense".

Expect the team to play "not to lose".

Most of all, expect to constantly wonder "what does the coaching staff do every week?"*

Seriously, what signs are there of any coaching being done this year? The gameplan doesn't change. In-game decisions - playcalls, clock-management, etc - seem random at best.

Oh, and for those of you actually going to the games, expect to enjoy the tailgating scene, and be pleasantly surprised / shocked by any on-field success. They're 19-14 in Kinnick since the start of 2012.

Yes it should be pinned on the hawkeye coaches office doors and the locker room for motivatoin although I dont blame the players.

That other bolded part about the home record just sucks.

I know injuries hurt in 2012 but 2014 was almost the last straw for me, barely renewed my tickets and glad I did, but now it is worse than 2014, it is.

Gary needs to play episodes of Game of Thrones on the scoreboard so people can leave the stadium feeling like they were entertained.

Basically turn Kinnick into a Drive-In theater that happens to have a football game going on in the background.

Maybe have lots of concession promos during the game?

Small discounts for somewhat common things- Hawks complete a pass for less than 3 yards, or go 3-and-out, etc.

Bigger discounts for less common things- Hawks score more than 14 points in a half, or complete a pass that went more than 30 yards in the air, etc.
