....and taking my wife who's family are huge Nebraska fans (yeah starting next year will get very interesting to say the least).
I want her to be impressed and see how Kinnick stacks up to Memorial Stadium. I think the problem is unfortunately we are going to the Eastern Illinois game.

What kind of crowd can we expect?

I would also like suggestions on where we should park to tailgate. Keep in mind that I am 31 and have no interest in beer bongs if you know what I mean.

Thanks!

the crowd will be at capacity and will be relatively quiet, especially if this is a hot day.

i don't know if this is an 11 a.m. game, but those games can especially be relatively quiet as people seem to be still waking up and haven't had a chance to get 'fueled' up comparatively.

There will be 70,000 there, but as ankle said it won't be that loud as it is Eastern Illinois and at 11am. If you are just looking to grill and drink a few beers tailgating I would say Finkbine (west of the stadium on Melrose) is probably the best place, it is pretty laid back but yet a few that like to party as well.

The crowd usually doesn't get too worked up for a game like Eastern Illinois, but given the expectations for this season, it might have a little more juice in it for even an FCS school. And who knows, maybe you'll get treated to UNI v2.0?

Have you taken the train in before? Has anyone else on here? What is it all about? Where do you board the train at and where does it drop you off at?

there will be signs out on the coralville strip. you'll park in a big gravel lot. it will drop you off right by Kinnick.

I took my son to a game once (he was 4/5 at the time) and his highlight was the train, not the game. It didn't help that this was the game v. Indiana that we lost a few years ago - Jake era.... But kids that age don't care about the game much anyway.

I have been to several games in Lincoln and probably close to 200 games at Kinnick.

I don't think Lincoln holds a candle to Kinnick. I really don't. Kinnick rivals the Horseshoe and the Big House for game day environments.
