Going for the "lights out" hit versus simply making the tackle

Noticing more and more it seems like dbacks are simply going for the ESPN highlight hit instead of just wrapping a guy up and bringing him down ... In the past weekend saw at least 8 different occasions where the dback just sort of lowered the shoulder and went for the hit with no attempt to wrap the arms ... In at least half of those attempts the runner/receiver kept on going ... Interesting ... But I guess not surprising when they see it happening in the NFL every Sunday ...

Are you like me, in the fact that I'm sick and tired of the announcers saying "TEXTBOOK TACKLE," every single time a DB or whoever comes flying in and "missles" themselves almost aimlessly at the ball carrier???? It's sweet when it causes a fumble, or when it works and the ball carrier is seeing stars. But is it worth it? Especially if the defender goes helmet to helmet and risks a great many things....?

I enjoyed the 'tackle' that was made on the Bears' Forte in exactly this manner last Sunday. It got him a touchdown on the play. :D

We have had plenty of fine tackling defenders in the past few seasons. They sould stand as examples to this year's starters as well... Remember Spivey vs. ball-carrier???

This kind of tackling is what causes injury. Hit em low, take out their legs. (and every single ligament in their knee) It is far from fundamental and it puts both the tackler and tacklee at a much greater risk. At the same time, however, this IS football..

Right. It is football. For now. So why not use some timing/vision/FUNDAMENTALS and wrap somebody up.......?
