This is a good post. But I agree with the previous poster that 7-5 is won't get it done. 7-5 will NEVER put you in the Top 25 at the end of the season.

We dont go 7-5 every year. 11-2 just 2 seasons ago. There are gonna be rough seasons and there are going to be magical ones.

Its real hard for people around here just to enjoy the ride. Not singling you out 1977.

Dumb. Going off of the very quick research I did, From 2000-2009 no team finished in the AP Top 25 all 10 years. Only 5 finished in the AP Top 25 in 9 of those years (Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Texas, Georgia and Ohio State). And only 2 more finished in the AP Top 25 in 8 of those years (Florida and LSU).

So for the first decade of the 2000's only 7 college football programs met the exact expectations you have for the University of Iowa. The expectations some fans have, yourself included, are borderline insane.

This pretty much nails it.

I'm glad you mentioned Georgia. Here's Richt's record:

2001 Georgia 8–4 5–3
2002 Georgia 13–1 7–1
2003 Georgia 11–3 6–2
2004 Georgia 10–2 6–2
2005 Georgia 10–3 6–2
2006 Georgia 9–4 4–4
2007 Georgia 11–2 6–2
2008 Georgia 10–3 6–2
2009 Georgia 8–5 4–4
2010 Georgia 6–7 3–5
2011 Georgia 4–2 3–1

For this, he's supposedly on "the hot seat." College football fans really can be quite insane.

I think that ''hot seat'' talk about Richt was nuts also, but when they lost the first two this year, that made them 6-9 in their last 15 games. Bulldog fans got used to much better, and know that Georgia has top 10 recruiting classes every single year,so they expect no 15 game stretches like that. Tough titty,Bulldogs, take the pain.

Look - this isn't rocket science, you disagree fine.

I don't think a bowl game can make or break a season. If we go 10-2 and lose a bowl game to end up 10-3, it is A BETTER YEAR than going 9-3 and winning the bowl game to go 10-3.

OK.

Done.

Jesus.

This is one of the dumbest posts in the history of the innerwebz.

Then lets start ignoring the first Big Ten game of the season. One game doesn't make or break.

All you ****nig chicken littles twist reality to fit your arguments. How about you just use their overall record?

There is no valid reason to ignore bowl games. But you want to make Kirk look bad, so you ignore his bowl record.

No it's not.

It is saying that our final standing in the Big 10 is more important than a glorified exhibition game which is all a bowl game is unless it is for the NC.

The bowl game is the most important game of the season. Everybody knows that. To say otherwise is just dishonest. To say it is an "exhibition" game is just laughable.

If Kirk's bowl record was 3-6 instead of 6-3, the naysayers on this board would be pounding him about that.

You just can't reason with a lot of the people on this board.

Then why don't you just focus on B10 record? Why even look at their final record?

Kirk has the 2nd best B10 record in the league over the last decade. Now you can go ahead and cherry pick and show that his B10 record sucks.

THAT IS WHAT I AM LOOKING AT!!!

THAT IS WHY I SAID THAT MY EXPECTATION WAS 5-3 IN THE BIG TEN WITH 4-0 OR 3-1 OUT OF CONFERENCE TO GET TO 8-4 AS AN EXPECTATION.

IN THE LAST 5 YEARS KF'S BIG TEN RECORD:

2-6
4-4
5-3
6-2
4-4

THAT IS A TOTAL OF 21-19. MY EXPECTATION WOULD BE FOR 25-15. HE IS BASICALLY ONE GAME OFF OF IT.

Anyone who thinks the Bowl Game is the most important game of the season is living in 1965.

No, it's not. It is placing greater emphasis on every regular season game as opposed to the bowl game. So, that week 3 OOC win over Middle Tennesse St/ULM/Western Michigan Technical College >>>>>> a bowl win over Missouri/South Carolina/Georgia Tech. Madness.

Springsteen, anyone who thinks 5-3 is the minimum expectation for a record in the Big Ten should give up his HN Doctorate.

You are living in fantasy land. I know you are extremely intelligent, but you have no perspective about where Iowa has been and how the world of football and potential football recruits actually views us.

You did study the trends, and you noticed that Ferentz is 21-20 in the Big Ten recently, for a winning percentage of 53%. Your argument, apparently, is that 53% is not acceptable. Your implication (clearly) is that things need to change.

Iowa played 76 seasons of Big Ten football before Fry/Ferentz came along. What do you think the total winning percentage in Big Ten games was for our beloved Hawkeyes?

36%

We were the laughingstocks of the Big Ten for 76 years. The bottom feeders. The cellar dwellers. Irrelevant, just like Iowa basketball has been for the past 6 seasons.

I'll take a 53% winning percentage every year. I'm sorry, but you cannot convince me otherwise. The good news is that Ferentz has had numerous seasons where he won 5 or 6 (or more) Big Ten games. It will happen again.

It is absolutely incredible to me that you express dissatisfaction with this coach. If you don't believe that we can return to 36% or less, carefully study what has happened to our basketball program. Everyone thought Lickliter would take us to another level. He did it all right - the bottom level. It can happen in football as well.

I just think it's funny over the last 10 years KF has averaged exactly what your expectation is yet you refuse to acknowledge it.

What is the reason for playing a regular season. oh yeah to get into a good bowl or the nc. Its the last thing people see each year and normally its what non- fans remember. Us fans remember every crucial down but for those of us living next to nebby its nice to get those bowl wins because that's the only one they see.
