Glad we don't have Wisky's schedule..

Just noticed Wisconsin's schedule for next year. It is fricken brutal. They open against LSU, then starting with their 4th game they play Mich. St., Mich., Ohio St., Iowa, Nebby, and Northwestern in a row! Good luck with that...Would love to see them beat Michigan at the big house though...

I'd rather have Michigan win since they are in the East and gives us a larger margin for error if Wisconsin ends up being the other contender in the West.

Agree. But 80% of the board wants us to play Bama, FSU, and FLA, plus whatever 9-game sched the BIG throws at us.

Iowa will get its turn in 2017

Cross-division games against PSU, MSU and OSU.

Division games @NW, @WISC, @Neb

If I was KF, I would retire after the 2016 season. Beathard will be gone. Killer schedule. Good time to walk away.

Will they be beat down and demoralized when we get them, or like a wounded angry badger with nothing left to lose?

I will go with beat down, but not demoralized. Wisc will play Iowa close for 3 quarters, maybe even have a lead early in 4Q, but will then run out of gas and Iowa will end up winning by 2 scores

You made the point I was going to make. We have really benefited from a favorable schedule the last few years. Even this year, with Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska at home, it's better than it could've been. Next year is indeed brutal. And with the restrictions on the way in terms of who teams can and cannot play for non-conference games in the years to come, we can be lucky that ISU is on our schedule, even if we continue to struggle with them.

I really dont think KF has worried about tough going his whole life. His hawk teams many times play great on the road as the underdog. I think he will see the end of his contract unless it really goes bad.

I think Iowa's schedule continues to be an embarrassment. Look at 1970; Oregon St, USC, Arizona....it was standard back then to play real competition. I will never understand why Iowa, and a lot of Power 5 teams will play nobodies like, Miami of Ohio, North Dakota State....and yes Iowa State. I would rather see us lose to good teams than struggle with terrible programs....and yes I know North Dakota's history.

Iowa's schedules were interesting in the 60's and 70's. Lots of games against teams out west against PAC-8 and WAC schools. Arizon and Utah then were the equivalent of MWC schools today.

Iowa would also play eastern independents like Penn St, Pitt, Syracuse.

But one thing true then, Iowa would never play a team from the SEC, or the south in general.

I say bring on Wiscy's schedule. Great teams, great seasons, great programs....are built on tough challenges.

A big reason for this is that they wouldn't play us. They stayed segregated until around 1970, and those racist bastards refused to play any teams with black players before then.
So while the rest of the country was building up a tradition of traveling around playing other colleges, it was just one big good ol' boy circle jerk down South, and they never really have gotten over that, still not traveling often today.

Iowa's schedule is not that much different than the majority of Power 5 teams, so can we please stop with the negative comments on the Hawks' schedule?

As for Iowa's non-conference opponents in the '60s-70s....you do realize they agreed to play Iowa because Iowa was HORRIBLE, don't you? The USC's and Penn State's of the world were padding their schedule by playing the Hawks.

I know everyone wants to play the best, but I don't understand why an Iowa or Wisconsin would schedule difficult non-conferences game like LSU or Alabama. If they go undefeated and beat Ohio State or Michigan in the Big Ten championship game they are in the playoffs, because that win will be their "signature" win for the year. Just like last year, if Iowa stops MSU on that last drive they are in the playoffs, and even if Iowa had a win against LSU/Alabama in the non-conference a 12-1 Iowa would have been passed over for the playoffs by the other conference champions. So I don't see how it matters who they did or didn't play in the non-conference.

Um no, first off those teams in the 60/70s' were pretty much the same caliber of foes Iowa played in the late 50s' when Iowa had one of the best programs in the nation. Further, if Iowa had been playing today's schedule then.....no Mich, no Ohio State it would be hard to argue that they would NOT have had a few winning seasons in there. And yes Iowa does play a weaker schedule than most Big 10 teams, at least the upper tier of Big 10 programs. Wisc/LSU MSU/Notre Dame, Ohio St/Oklahoma. I am not looking for Iowa to play a top 10 schedule, but get rid of a cupcake, or two and play someone of national significance. 2015; when Pitt is arguably your best home game, something is wrong with the scheduling.

We all know why........ to pad win totals. A .500 career winning percentage doesn't impress anyone.

I agree with your point.

I'm in my 30s and I've had my fill of seeing Iowa play a cupcake non con schedule. Dumping the FCS schools after this year will be a start anyway. And I agree playing ISU does nothing for Iowa I'd rather they go play MO or Oklahoma school. I'm not crazy about them going west as our history with playing teams in the pacific time zones isn't very good. But a 8-4 record against a tough schedule is way more impressive to me then a 10-2 record with mostly cupcakes. Plus it makes getting up for every single game easier for fans players and coaches. When you know your a 20 pt favorite going into a game and it's not just because you've got a great team as much as it is the competition stinks is just not fun to me.

Missouri CANCELLED the series we had scheduled. Back in early Hayden days, HE requested getting rid of teams like Oklahoma/Nebraska/et. al. because the team would be injury-riddled by the time conference season rolled around. ISU series was mandated by legislature. Not much can be done there...

I believe it is a myth that the legislature mandates the Iowa/ISU series. I know that legislators and Governor Ray were involved in getting the series started in 1977, and threatened to make it mandatory. But I am pretty sure it was never done at the time, maybe it was done later....please correct me if I am worng.
