After a 2 for 15 start from the 3 pt line I was proud of the way they finished. Still need improvement in athleticism but there is hope for the future. Payne needs a lot of work on his right hand, also.

I liked the effort...there are no moral victories, but there is improvement and confidence being gained.

It was a great effort. Easily Payne's best night. He handled the pressure well most of the game. He had that spurt in the second half that was shaky, but he came back.

Cully just played a damn good game and all hillcrest has to say is something negative. I'm sure you need to work on your left hand........LMAO. Why is it so damn hard to say something nice about a Hawkeye basketball player? Great game by the Hawks, the ghost of CMS tried his best to have the Hawks pull that one out or at least send it to OT.

Yeah, why don't you foul and let them hit two FT's making it a 3 posession game instead of trying to get a stop and keep it a 2 posession game. Come on let's at least be somewhat logical when we attempt to criticize Lick???

Don't worry Lionhawk...the posters who can't stand being happy will be here in no time to bash Lick...Lil Lick...athleticism and us for liking the effort...
We had some nice looks down the stretch that could have been the difference (Gatens/Lickliter) along with a couple of forced shots (Payne/May) but overall they stayed after it. For all the grief some were piling on Lickliter, he had a key steal down the stretch and didn't hesitate to step up and take the open shot. Additionally May had a strong rebound and immediately kicked out to Payne who knew the game situation and pushed it up the floor to find Gatens for an open look. I don't like the "what if" game but man those six points sure could have been huge. On the flip side, it was great to see 3 hawkeyes crashing the boards and Cole calmly knocking down his two free throws.

Great effort tonight! Hilcrest1981 is right, this team and Lick did a great job tonight. After two wins last week and a great effort @ MSU, Lickliter deserves a raise and contract extension. Especially if we want more improvement in the future.

His post had a lot of truth in it; there were 2 or 3 possesions in a row in the 2nd half where Payne threw it out of bounds with no pressure on him and his target wide open.
That being said, a 7 point loss at the Breslin Center is a lot better than I was expecting tonight.

Payne has improved, May has improved, Fuller has improved, Gatens has improved, all since the beginning of the year. Sounds like player development and team improvement to me???

Some people just can't see it, it seems. I didn't think it would have been possible with all the transfers, but this team doesn't seem to be that far off from last years team was at this point.

Sounds like the football season in 2008...people were ignoring that Iowa was improving, until they started winning...hopefully the bball team can start putting the improvements in the W column as well.

And they'll get beat by 20 next game and everyone will be back on the Fire Lick bandwagon.
There haven't been too many Iowa teams in the last 20 yrs that have played MSU that close...let alone this team. Usually the Breslin Center means a 30 point beating.

This team just lacks depth and with the addittion of next year's class that will help tremendously! This team really is not that far off IMO!

Bingo, although I can't see Iowa having another Minnesota like game the rest of the season. Your point about Breslin is right on; even Alford's best teams got whitewashed up there, and Lickliter has taken two of the worst (record-wise) teams in school history and played competetive games. I don't know about anyone, but I could hear Izzo's sphincter tightening from here.
