Gesell Needs to Sit Out

No we have to ride him Billy Bob Style. He is going to play every down in that game.

He probably should play sparingly. Put Marble at point.

I agree. Also, May shouldn't play anymore. Play the guys who will be returning next year so they can gain some experience since the NIT doesn't matter.

I'd sit him, the NIT doesn't matter

NIT matters. You go out there pretending games don't matter and next thing you know you have a decade plus drought without winning a single NCAA game. I don't care if it's Marathon Oil or at Massachusetts in the NIT, the games all matter.

Why does it not matter? because some of you cry babies are mad because Iowa didnt make the dance? If he is healthy enough to play in other games he should play in the NIT. If you think he should play if they were in the dance but not the NIT then you dont care about the kid. You are just trying to state how unhappy you are.

I have a burning hatred for Marathon Oil that stems from youth.

So it doesnt progress to a stress fracture, and possibly require surgery...

Mike said last week that the particular bone affected is very unlikely to fracture. He can aggravate it and be in too much pain to play on it, but it's unlikely to break. And even if it did, a hairline fracture doesn't require surgery. You just stay off of it.

I am a little disappointed we didn't get to the dance but not shocked. I knew with the freshmen starting it would be iffy(getting to dance). Lets be honest here. Over the last three years Fran's teams have showed improvement as a team and individual improvement among the players. The last two coaches could not say that. The recruiting has improved also. We gave some of the best teams in the country a run for their money and one break here or there and we win those games. The freshmen usually make big strides when they go to their sophomore years. I expect that to be the case with all the freshmen. Next year should be the year of the Hawkeye and I have been pointing to next season for over two years. I fully believe it will happen. GO HAWkS and tear up the NiT and win the whole thing.

Couldn't agree more with the OP.

Comparing NIT games to a healthy point guard for three more years doesn't even merit an argument.

We had our shot for glory this year. We fell short. Get over it. No reason to risk a player to "show others". Silly mentality.

No more Ronnie Lester's please.

How's his foot going to get stronger if he doesn't man up and play through the pain?

Agree with these thoughts. Thought we would surprise this year and we did: 6th in the B1G. Didn't make it to the dance but was a bubble team until our last loss. Next step is a deep run in the NIT. If Gesell can help get us there without hurting himself more, go for it. One of the aces the Iowa program has up it's sleeve is cutting edge sports medicine (see Ricky Stanzi in the Orange Bowl year). Let's trust it.

So the dance is worth risking his health.........but seth53 doesnt think the Nit it worth it?

Seems legit.
