Gesell and Ingram

from what little i have found for video on Meyer he reminds me most of Bullard, shoot from outside and can play inside like him.
as for White this year he reminds me of a poor mans Larry Bird but is quicker

comparing white to larry bird maybe one of the worst comparisons ever. aw is not a good outside shooter, larry was one of the best. aw is an athletic 4/3 tweener that plays more above the rim. i dont think larry ever got above the rim (that is a joke). white is good but comparing him to larry is a joke. larry is what one of the 10 best players ever and their games arent that similar. larry was a trash talker that used his brains and toughness to get in your head on defense (to make up for his lack of athleticism) where aw is just a bad defender. this is like people comparing players to mj...only one guy is comparable to mj and he still aint close (kobe). watch more tape before making this comparison. aw isnt quick. larry actually was quick (he just wasnt fast..which is what aw looks to be - more fast than quick).

I agree that all three guards will be great additions to the roster. Hard to know what we can expect from 5 true freshman, but the level of athleticism on the team will improve from day one.

I am sure this will bring the homers out of the woodwork, but I for one am glad to see a coach who is willing to recruit outside the state of Iowa. Sure the state can produce a gem here and there, but we have seen far too many kids come in with low ceilings that never get better. White is a perfect example of a kid who has elevated his game because of playing against better talent night after night. White would have been a terror in Iowa high school ball, but was virtually off the radar in Ohio.

Good thread Herby. I apprecaite you sticking to Iowa hoops content vs. hoax threads and pull my finger commentary.

Herby, I always appreciate your comments and I agree with your thoughts on Clemmons. I have followed his career since last year and he is a gifted player that will add a ton to our roster. He can score if needed and he is a solid defender against the best talent in Michigan. Ingram is very similar. Both are underrated and will bring much to the Hawks. As I have posted in the past, Meyer will be a big suprise and both Clemmons and Ingram will be right there as well. Kind of funny, I saw Gesell out here in Phoenix and he tore it up, but I have little exposure to Woody. All in all I really appreciate your giving us updates. Thanks!!
Very nice post, Radman.....

i rethought my comparison has a few others on this site and other site came up with this, my thought was he reminded me of Bird in the way he led the team in other aspects of the game,
to be fair and a truer match would be Sam Oakey as a freshmen for Wiscy, i hope Whites career does not end like Oakey's did by injury

Michael was a totally different player then Stokes. I think the Meyer to Michael comparison is not that far off from what little I've seen. I don't think Meyer has a big time inside game and Michael sure did not. I know Meyer is pegged as a 5 but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a better 4 fit. When MP came in he had good ball handling skills for a big and caused match up problems because of that, not a powerful inside game. He ran pretty well and I think Meyer will too.

Frankly MP was hyped much more and I think would have been much more successful under Lute. I am guessing we still have to wait to see if the new guys coming in can put on enough muscle to be effective immediately in the Big 10. Don't get me wrong I think both will play but I don't know we'll be ready to really compete and bang inside. With Mel and White I doubt Meyer see's any time at the four, but I'd think that is his best fit. To expect Meyer to come in and contribute to the level MP did as a frosh would be expecting a lot. Meyer is not the player MP was, but I do think he'll help and can cause so match up issues.

the biggest reason why Meyer won't get the minutes are that Basabe andMcCabe will get the majority of the minutes at the 4, White will start at the 3 with Marble at the 2, the minutes will be situational, for matchup purposes, this is the point Fran has worked to get to. the ability to be flexible and put players on the floor to matchup with different lineups.

Sam Okey! Too bad he was not focused enough to meet his potential. He was ridiculos at times and showed why he was one of the nations top recruits. Athletically he was a lot better than white

IMHO Raveling would have been much happier working as an assistant coach with recruiting responsibilities, rather than as a head coach in a D1 program, especially one located in a "fishbowl" community in the middle of the country. He was a tremendous recruiter but not a very strong bench coach ... or motivator, for that matter. He was notorious for resting players just as they were starting to get hot from the floor, also slow in adapting to different strategies from opponents. Raveling wrote a book on rebounding and supposedly was an expert in it, but I don't recall Iowa ever leading the league in that category during his short time in Iowa City.

It is correct that Lohaus languished under Raveling. That was partly on Brad; a tall, thin, gangly kid when he got to campus, it took a while for him to add the strength and weight so that he was not bumped halfway across the floor playing with his back to the basket. And he never was much of a jumper ...

No. George loved the spotlight. He would never have been happy as No. 2.

it wasn't that Sam was not focused, it was that he came here for the sole reason of playing for Mr. Davis, he had a choice sit out the 2nd semester and have a full year to play, but Mr. Davis was told that his contract was not being renewed, this caused a very big ripple amoungst the players, JR Koch was going to RS to get stronger, Oakey was going to wait til the following fall to play, Collison who the good Dr had been recruiting since the 7th grade, more than likely would have committed to Iowa as Roy Williams didn't even talk to the kid til after it got out Davis was not coming back.
this caused Koch and Oakey to play their last season under Davis, Oakey broke his wrist and missed the good part of the only semester he had available, Settles, Oakey and Koch made a very formiadle front court, after the season was over Collison went to Kansas, Joey Range left because he didn't like Alfords style of play, which was reinforced by a game in the tourney where Alfords team won a low scoring game that was in the 40's.
who knows what kind of team Tom Davis would have had if he had been allowed to stay,
Oliver at the point, Range at the 2 guard, Oakey at the SF, Collison at the pf and Koch at the center, now that would have been some lineup,
this was coming about because Rawling took his Ivy league thinking to Brown, and Mary Sue Coleman put the academic qualification back to BT standards, one of the hardest to get over was they needed 15 core course instead of the 13 that was required bt the BT and the other was that 2 foriegn languages was needed, Hunter Rawlings did more damage to the Iowa's FB and BB progams than anything, why do you think Davis recruited so many Iowa kids, its not like Iowa was turning out 4-5 highly ranked players in BB

I meant his drugand alcohol issues caused him to not max out his potential at Wisconsin. He did not get along with Bennet but that was caused by him being a turd.

I saw he was the first freshmen in Big 10 history to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists
and blocks. He was a McDonalds all american coming out of high school. He was named MVP of an AAU tournament ahead of Kevin Garnett.

Sam Okey was a Stud

Sam Okey and Aaron White are nothing alike. Okey was much more physically developed from day one, explosive actually. White is much more diverse. These comparisons being offered are pretty off.

BTW, Lute's recruiting, when he ran off to Arizona, left a LOT to be desired. He had an assortment of bigs, but no real PG, and no athletes on the wings, Raveling worked hard to resolve that and it resulted in the crazy athletes that Mr. Davis was blessed with.

Okey and White not at all alike.

Same Okey was actually allot like Rocye White.

Yeah, I remeber that.

Range, Okey, and Collison would have been national championship caliber front court.

I don't think Range would have made it either way, he was not much of a student and didn't do anything but eat after he left Iowa.
