Gesell and Clemmons going at each other

Fran McCaffery hasn't had a good year yet NOR sustained anything.

Hoiberg's been there 2 years. How do you prove you sustain something if you've only had 2 years? At least he's won with the 2 years he's had.
Sorry smelly Badger troll, going from 11 wins to 18 wins and a post-season bid is a GOOD year.

Trashing your Badger thugs TWICE is a good year.

Your run is over. Fran owns you guys. It's over; Ding Dong the Grinch is dead, the Grinch is dead, the Grinch is dead, ding dong the wicked Grinch is dead!!!

Now you sound as sad as he does. The Grinch was so damaged from getting beat by us, that he won 26 games and made a Sweet 16 run.

Stop making me side with the Badger troll!

I cant remember the last time I have seen so much excitement about the basketball team during this time of the year. With Fred getting things going in Ames this could turn out to be one hell of a rival game not just in Iowa but on a national level.
It has been years since there has been this much excitement, I believe we will be filling the stands at Carver again this season.....

With free pizza and ice cream and free ticket promotions again?

I kid I kid.

If Clemmons is good enough to give Mike a run for his money and Mike is as good as some are saying I could see them both ending up in the starting line up.

I'm not sold Josh O has the speed needed to defend the 2 spot at the Big 10 level. Time will tell... he was only a freshman so I'm sure his speed and defense will improve.

Good point IBA. AC & MG will be on the floor at the same time, I think we can bank on that happening.

Wisconsin fans are little brothers now too? Damn we have a lot of little brothers

Great article. I don't expect much of anything from Clemmons the 1st two years offensively. I think he may give us a "bonus" bucket here or there, but he will be a good energy guy and help on defense for sure. He will actually be able to defend other teams PG's unlike Bryce.

I didn't catch that the first time around. My bad. I still don't like him.

I have never seen Clemmons play but Roy Marble Senior has and he has said that Clemmons is very impressive. Coming from Roy Marble carries some weight with it in my book.

Never forget the hot dog, if they provide free Vienna Beef Weiners, Chicago style, I will drive from DM in the dead of Winter in a raging blizzard.....

How so? It's the exact same situation. White may have been a better player than Gatens, but I think they're both equally tough to replace.

I do not share the view point that they will be equally hard to replace.

ISU is basically starting all over on offense, they lost a first round draft pick who their entire offense revolved around, and they lost their second and third best offensive players too. Christopherson and Allen.

Iowa lost one second team all league guy, totally different IMO.

With the addition of Gessel Iowa plugs the PG spot with a better fit than either Cartwright or Marble, and then Marble takes over as the wing scorer for Gatens. The rest of the team is the same or better.

I actually think that for ISU the guy that will be toughest to replace is Christopherson. Lucious can replace Wihte in terms of running the offense and distributing. Clyburn can make up for his scoring and is a pretty decent rebounder. Niang will help rebounding and scoring as well. But Christopherson was a deadly outside shooter and was the leader of that team.
Allen won't be hard to replace.

They actually may be better defensively because White, Allen and Christopherson were not good defenders.

I agree and expect that our overall offense will be better this year. I do have to give Gatens his props for being a very good defensive player and hope that someone can step up and fill that void.

Honestly, this is just amazing that we are talking Hawk hoops this time of year. Gessell is a great kid from a grea fam. I know them and he will be a great rep of the Iowa program. NCAA tourney or bust!

I think Clemmons is going to be a kid that Fran won't be able to keep out of the starting line-up, perhaps as early as next year, with Gesell sliding over to the off-guard.

I've said this before, but Gesell-Clemmons sounds like Bobby Jackson-Eric Harris to me. Like Jackson, Gesell is a small combo guard who can do it all. Like Harris, Clemmons is a tough as nails on the ball defender, a natural leader, and a true point guard who can control tempo and set his teammates up.

This is the kind of backcourt that could eventually win conference championships.

I sure hope you are right.
