Connecticut Huskies Geno Auriemma blames Notre Dame Fighting Irish for Big East football issue - ESPN

His team of twelve women could win the Big East football title this year, even with Notre Dame in the conference.

And then he goes on to cry that Miami, VT, and BC left the Big East too. Guess what you grease ball, firing up the WHHHAAAAAAAAAmbulance every time you get in front of a microphone has been hurting women's basketball more that it's helping.

The Big East should do itself a favor and just tell nd that it is all or nothing. The Big East would hardly lose anything if the rest of nd's sports had to pull out of the league. Where would nd go? I would love to see the Big East push nd into making a decision...either full time in all sports or find yourself a new conference.

Seriously? ND would walk in a second.

ND wants to remain football independent. They refused real leagues, so of course they are going to refuse a joke league. Name one single thing ND would gain by putting their football team in the Big East?

Serious answer? Keeping all their other sports in a BCS conference. No other BCS conference would take ND's non-fb sports without the fb program. If the Big East says "all in or all out," what would ND really do?
They would probably not go all in in the Big East, but they wouldn't let the BB teams etc. start competeing in the MAC, either.

Then they walk. ND has been holding the Big East hostage from the start, and it's long past time that the conference show some balls on the matter.

Auriemma is right: if ND was in the Big East in football, these defections probably wouldn't have happened and the Big East wouldn't be on death's door.

I agree with him. Furthermore, if respectable BCS programs simply quite scheduling them to force them to quit the independent crap than this wouldn't be an issue. ND get's away with it because other programs allow them to remain independent.

I agree with Geno. It's really not that difficult of a situation, if programs simply quit scheduling ND to force them to quit the independent crap and force them to join a conference to play legitimate programs then they have no choice. ND gets to play this game simply because the big boys let them.

Why doesn't anyone realize that the teams that traditionally play ND get much more out of an annual ND game than ND does, which is exactly why they play them every year. Who do you think teams like Michigan St., Purdue, Navy, Stanford, Boston College, and Pitt are going play that will make them an equal amount of revenue? USC could probably afford to stop playing them, but that would seriously peeve off USC fans, who traditionally don't care about anything except beating ND and UCLA. That leaves Michigan.

If ND walked up to Barta today and offered him a home and home in perpetuity, he would be doing back flips the second he dropped the pen inking the contract.

Dude, You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. USC fans want to win Rose Bowls and NCs. The ND game is big because it has national exposure. But USC fans would think the season is a failure unless they at least win the Rose Bowl, seriously a Holiday Bowl or Alamo Bowl birth is a poor season.

Believe me. I grew up in a VERY SERIOUS USC family. It was also why it was refreshing to go to Iowa. Having the team just be happy to get to a decent bowl game is a nice change of pace.

I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive.

ND picked the BEast because it was a weak conference that has schools without FB. ND didn't make the conference weak.

Trying to put ND on the spot by pressuring them to join in FB is going to backfire.
