Well that had to be a fun game for him to watch in the stands. To see us have a player like Sargent do what he did and then also Young had to excite him for how we'd use him. From everything I hear he's a quiet young man that's a heck of a talent that would be a perfect fit for our culture. Hope we are at the top of his list

Thought I heard he was transferring to Dowling Catholic.
Ah that'd be news to me. They are the best recruiters of central Iowa so wouldn't be the biggest surprise. Too bad though SE Polk just built a huge new HS and is out there in the country. I'm not sure where he lives but it's a great part of that whole area to live. To go to WDM Dowling instead of there wouldn't entice me even a little bit. There's nothing he could achieve there that he couldn't at SE Polk in the big picture. (if he's chasing HS championships then sure yeah I guess Dowling is the way to go but to me that's little picture)

GW visited for the Nebraska game. I think he attended two or three games this fall.

It might come down to Iowa v Iowa State in this one. Cyclones offered first.

I heard he had showed up at the Dowling victory celebration wearing Dowling gear and word is he is going to transfer but I don't know that's it's official.

Interesting we haven't had many head to head battles with them lately have we? That we've lost anyway. So if that's the case I like our chances

It'd be a weird deal to NOT transfer if that's the case. I mean unless if say he had some family tie to them of some sort than all bets are off too. Time will tell.

Trevor Downing was a big one in the last class. He wanted to study Ag and that factored into it, but Iowa wanted him pretty bad. Zach Peterson from the '18 cycle chose ISU over Iowa as well. He was a legacy, though.

I would expect more head-to-head battles moving forward. Campbell is different that Paul Rhoads, who didn't offer kids Iowa offered. Campbell is very willing to mix it up.

Interesting I'd forgotten about both of them but remember part of their recruitment now that you bring them up again. The Peterson kid I never thought we were going to get but the Downing kid I was hopeful on.
I guess the next question is will be how long is Campbell in for? His agents phone will be busy and Campbells will be as busy as he wants it to be...

It will be interesting to see what happens with the guys Iowa offered and then backed away from that ended up at ISU in '19 class. They include Jirehl Brock, Breece Hall, Easton Dean and Derrick Miller. Blake Peterson, Jake Remsburg and Coal Flansburg were guys Iowa liked, didn't offer and ended up at ISU.

There's just a lot more crossover now than there was with Rhoads and even McCarney.

Downing 's HS coach was a Rhoads, and then Stoops assistant at OU. Plus Creston area is Clown country. Combine that with his educational interests and it was pretty clear Iowa didn't have much of a shot.

That kid and Sargent will be kinda tied at the hip for obvious reasons... So far so good on our end but safe to say Iowa gave Brock a chip to put on his shoulder the same way Sargent has one from others..

I covered Downing's recruitment pretty closely. I do think Iowa had a decent shot but ultimately couldn't overcome not having a Ag program and ISU offering and building a relationship with him almost from the first day Campbell arrived in Ames.

Here's one of the stories I wrote: LINK

I think will be the case to a degree. They'll be two years apart in eligibility of Brock plays as a true freshman. I also like Breece Hall quite a bit. I think he will be a good college back.

He has been in the SEP football program since youth football. Many of us SEP folks thought his parents were huge SEP supporters. He was an 4 star at the start of the year. Since dropped to a 3 star. Transferring to Dowling is his best bet to get the 4 star ranking back.

I would surely hope that that stupid star ranking isn't a priority... Couldn't be more meaningless. I could see if a certain school he's interested in hasn't offered him yet kinda thing would bug him. But if say it's between Iowa and ISU for him than what's that stupid extra star mean? There's big picture and little picture. I know teenagers can think just like you may be suggesting. I just wish they wouldn't..

high school is like college anymore. Kids transfer all the time. Not a huge deal. But when a kid shows up to the Dowling state title game in full Dowling gear. Holding up the #1 sign as if he had anything to do with their state title. And this was exactly 1 week after he was on that same field supposedly “giving his all” for his SEP teammates. It really shows what his priorities are. It’s the Gavin show or bust. His practice ethics and “team first” attitude sucks. If he thinks it will fly at Dowling he has a ride awakening coming. Let along at the college level....
